Ok,
On an 8V digi (I or II) there are two coolant temp sensors on top of the flange at the front of the head. both are two "prong" sensors one pluged into a blue clip, and the other plugged into a black clip. Both Sensors/Senders are the same size and shape but one is black and the other is blue (matching with the clips on the wiring harness).
My question, is what is the difference between the two and how do I make sure I order the right one between the two?
I have replaced the blue one - and as I understand, that is the coolant temp sensor that sends it's info to the ECU.
I need to replace the black one - After testing my coolant temp gauge, I found it works when I ground the signal wire. So I assume that the black sensor/sender is actually the sender for the temp gauge.
Do I have this right, and how do I make sure I am getting the black sender? Parts4vws has one listed but it describes the sender as "blue" and the picture is "black"?
I need to pass smog by the end of April! Time to go trouble shoot my tach!
