That place was just wasted. Now go there and see it, it looks like it was just abandoned

Radiation levels are actually okay there. You just wouldn't want to reproduce there ;)

apparently a lot of native animals have taken over the old town and they inhabit a lot of the buildings. trees and plants grow everywhere, even in the upper floors of mulit-story apartment complexes.

discovery did a special showing what life would be like if man just vanished from the earth and used that place to show examples...

I was stationed in Germany when that happened. Before I left, I (we of the 8th ID) were tested for radiation poisioning from.... get this..... drinking milk! Apparently the dust cloud drifted over the southern part of Germany, the cows ate the grass ect....

I had "elevated" levels but nothing worse that getting the same as 10 Xrays a year.

Trippy stuff.

No Patrick that is not quiet the case. Levels are ok out of the center (50 miles radius) and that only if you don't cause dust or movement of soil or any other materials. I have just recently seen a documentary on it. It was scary to say the least. True is that you could go to visit for a couple hours and under some precautions. I would not do it. They showed junkyards full of equipment and trucks that were used to clean the accident site back than ...this stuff was radiating like the sun itself...20 years oh man.
I grew up in germany and it was crazy back than. We weren't allowed to eat mushrooms or any veggies for that matter, kids couldn't play in the sand and drinking milk was not recommended as well.

Wow... Read every caption and piece of text, truly sounds like hell, god damn. Makes you fear the potential dangers that the human race posses both in terms of weapons of war and energy for everyday life...
