Great car, one of the greats in their history. Cheap parts and they run forever, unfortunately, BMW's paint from that era was sketchy at best, the 80's had peeling paint, the late 80'-90's had the paint that would look like it got hit with a brilo pad. What are your plans?

haha true on the paint...but for the year and all its still pretty solid...

well for now im going to basic maintance...timing belt, water pump, accessory belts, fuel filter,,etc...then possible suspension upgrades and nice rims...its a solid little car, everything works and the interior is in suprisingly good condition with only 124xxx original miles

They are pretty solid cars, what you have listed is a good start I would do the Inspection II which is basically the major service with the valve adjustment. Check the motor mounts, when they go bad, when you stop, the motor moves, and the fan slides into the radiator, I would keep up on the cooling system, these have a tendency to have issues with cooling system problems, keep the mix of coolant right, do the water pump and t-belt like you said ASAP since the belts like to snap and it ruins the head, junk yard heads are junk so its easier to source a running motor, and if the hoses are old, do a rehose. The throttle body has a small coolant flange on it, they like to leak, and they leak on/into the throttle position sensor, usually the bolts will break, new T.B. The air boot can split and cause poor running between the meter and T.B. Control arm bushings are probably bad, shifter will need rebuilding, good time to upgrade. Driveshafts go bad and cause a vibration. The electrical and airbag systems are generally trouble free. Be careful on dips and parking blocks since the oil pan is the sacrificial piece under the car.

On a good note, when you put on an exhaust, ditch the cat, put in a chip they go like a bat out of hell, even better if you like to go to ecology and find the 4:10 diff out of an automatic E30

o and ive noticed when im at a completely stop with the brake engaged the car vibrates...almost as if i can feel the vibration of the engine in the car...could that be that the mounts are going out?

Very good chance that the mounts are going.. Excess vibration is certainly one indication. Also check the trans mounts while you're down there.

is it the same mount for the left and right side and then the tranny mount?
