Hello all,
I just purchased a new 22"widescreen monitor for my 4 year old computer. It appears to have an issue though, or maybe its my computer. Everything seems to be widened, this pages has parts that look fuzzy because they have been stretched, even while looking at pictures i have stored on my computer, they become widened. I am sort of taking a guess here, which does not make sense to me, but let me know if i am in the right area, or please point me towards it. I believe that my graphics card cannot handle it, its old and has only ever been hooked up to my 12x9 monitor (not sure if that is correct terminology, but its the old squarish CRT). So does anybody know? I really hope theres just some setting i can change, but i doubt it, since i have played with them all, already. Someone please help me out.

your video card may not be powerful enough to run it in native resolution hence the "fuzzyness" I had this issue with my 24" Dell.... upgraded the card and it was all good...

thanks for the quick reply. Yeah so i decided to hook it up to my sony Vaio laptop, which is widescreen, to see if i had the same issues, and none at all. To bad, i guess that means i will be going back out to get a new video card tommorow.

Anyone know of any that are not to pricey? Since i only use this computer for internet, photoshop, illustrator, and flash, i don't think i would need one that can handle gaming or anything of the sort, just need it to display nicely is all. Thanks in advance.

Before you go buy a new video card, find out the native resolution of our new monitor and then go into the display settings of your computer and look to see if they have the same value and set it to that.

Does your new monitor have DVI inputs? If so, make sure your new video card has a DVI output because then you'll get a much better picture.

First thing with getting a new video card is to make sure you know what type of interface (AGP/PCI-E) it uses. A good budget card for what you want would be a lower level card in the Nvidia 7 series. Depending on which one you'd be looking at about 30-50 bucks. Plus, most of them have a VGA and DVI output so no worries there.
