I'm going to be taking apart the TT for some high mileage TLC. I was thinking about getting one of those steam cleaner things to do the engine bay and wheel wells and just about everywhere I would be working.
Has anyone used one? Do they work or should they be avoided for some reason?
They only cost like $20 for a cheap hand held one or $150 for a cheap canister one.

Paging Brk4Euros ...
take it to the coin op with some simple green, just be careful, VAG makes a nice car, but a submarine they don't, keep the wand a good 2 feet from anything the has wires around it.

I use a steam cleaner all the time. Like Mike said, be careful around the wiring and if you can have air to blow off the engine when your done, better.

They work pretty good, just use a rag to wipe up the grease after you spray a spot, cuz all it does is move the grease from one area to another.
Keeps the environment clean too!!!

I ordered a small steam cleaner set so we'll see what happens.
There is a HUGE price range on these things. There are basically the cheap ones, the still cheap but slightly larger ones, and the "OMG THIS WAS TOTALLY WORTH $2000+ BECAUSE IT SAVED MY ALLERGIES" ones.
I went with the still cheap but larger variety.

I wound up never getting the cleaner. After a month or so they told me my package was lost by the shipper and refunded my money.
I'd still like to get a steam cleaner but I just haven't had time to think about it.
