LCD is better for gaming, plasma is better for sports, lifespan is now about the same.

Plasma tends to have better color contrast
LCD use much less energy, but tend to be less vibrate in color

Plasma's down fall, is power consumption is much higher, but worth it if you want the high bright colors

also slim DLP tv's are really nice also ... not quite as thin, but color is really good and price

Also from what I have heard plasmas tend to run a little hotter.

Sounds like you have a fun filled day ahead of you. I thought about doing that when I bought my LCD but I ended up buying a TV stand from Target.

Also one other drawback of the plasma is they have a glossy screen so you tend to see reflections in it.

Because I have horses for dogs who insist on standing/playing/staring at me in front of the TV, im mounting it up on the wall. I think I can tilt it down a little to eliminate some of the glare.

+1 on what Lon said.

The color contrast and vibrance of LCD just doesn't do it for me. Looks so dull.

decided against the Visio 60" and got the 56" Panasonic plasma screen and wall mount kit. (Thanks tax return!)

Now that I got it home (Had to come get the F450 work truck since it wouldnt fit into the F250with the shell) get it inside and it seems to me im gonna need some help. The wife is too weak to be of any use here.

Anyone experienced in installing a wall mount plasma tv want some side cash?

Its up, but its not flowing the HD just yet. I have to get a HD cable box on monday.

I probably need to go buy longer cables to reach up the wall. So far I just have cable and no surround sound hooked up to it.

Man, 58" is HUGE!! Looks small in the store. :D

Wait! I don't have a HD cable box either but I get HD channels! NO really! Look for a button on your remote or a setting on the menu that has "analoge/digital" or "A/D" as an option.

I pushed that button and outta NOWHERE WHAM! New set of channels that were straight up HD! It is the basic channels, but HD none-the-less. And I only pay for extended cable, no box.

***EDIT*** Really, I could see the boogers on Drew Carey's boogers watching the Price is Right.

Thats because you have a HD cable box! My shit is an old DVR box that has no cool features and odd makes noise whenever it wants.

I called COX and they told me I had an ancient box. Trust me, I tried everything to get a decent picture. LOL!! I had to swap to 4:3 to make it half way OK.

There is no charge for HD BTW, you can swap your non HD box for a HD box at no charge.

I don't have a cable box at all! It is just coax going straight from my wall to the back of my TV. I am pretty sure my TV has a built in HD tuner, but yours prolly does too. Our is like a year old model, LCoS.

More than likely you are using your tv's ATSC tuner (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ATSC_tuner) and you're getting your HD signals over the air.

Ah, makes sense and is very possible!

I know it's a bit late but one clear advantage LCDs have over Plasma is the ability to display static images without causing damage to the display. When you have a static image stay on for too long on a plasma screen, the image will be burned onto the display.
