This morning before heading into work, I stopped at the local gas station to fill up. My MINI normally takes 91 but 91 oct. has hit a record high over $4 bucks a gallon. So I've stooped down to 89 (3.75 pg) this week and I've noticed my gas consumption is actually better than when I used 91.

Most of my drive is highway driving and at one point my gas range had hit 465 miles before I got stuck in stop and go traffic. By time I got to work I had driven 100 miles and this is what my car's computer read:

http://www.socaleuro.com/gallery/displayimage.php?imageid=5073

Consumpt. 1: was reset at the gas station before I left.
Consumpt. 2: was reset the first on April (I like to keep that one running for the month.)
Avg. Speed: was also reset at the gas station before I left today.

I forced myself to stay between 70-75 mph and still managed to have all most 400 miles left on my range.

What's your car consuming?

I get about 15-19mpg on 91.

I tend to have a very heavy foot though.
If I'm really easy I can get 24-26mpg half city/half freeway.

I am also running very rich because of my turbos and lack of fueling kit.

i get around 19miles to the gallon with my foot on it, if i switch to stock it goes up about 5-6 miles per gallon. I am running on 87 in stock mode. or slow mode

only fill up your tank when the ground is cold, filling your car up in the middle of the day will get you less gas, because gas at higher tempatures becomes a lot less dense, even 1 degree of change is a big deal when it comes to gas vapors. Another trick is dont fill up at the highspeed setting, click the pump to the first slow setting, this allows less air bubbles to pass through the pump, taking up space where the ever so expensive gas should be! I have a report on it save at home somewhere

My 325 gets close to 400 a tank on 91oct.

My nav looks nothing like that and I have an 06. I think it's pretty smart, I have the single knob in my center console, The new update brought back the screen to change from the map display to the arrow display and shows the distance to turn when you get near a turn.

Shouldn't a lower octane burn less anyways, resulting in higher mpg.. I thought this was the case? Or is it a general consensus that lower grade will result in lower fuel economy?

Anywhoo... I've put in 91 everyday. I'm not gona let an extra $5 at the pump change my mind to get lower ocane. I got some high ass compression!

My tank is 18.5gal and I got about 280 miles per fill up ($70 twice a week)
Avg MPG = 15 any day

13.5 gallons of veggie juice every 600 miles or so.

I average about 19mpg on my VR. Straight freeway with a light foot around 25 but my commute is a bunch of stop and go oh and I only feed it 91 octane. Not worth a few extra bucks at the pump.

i pay $54.00 once a week and a couple days in my vr. it lasts, BUT it's only if i am driving to school and work only. if i drive anywhere else, then my gas goes quicker.

my communite per day is roughly 30miles uphill and downhill. i have a medium weight foot.

My M5 gets roughly 17.5 to 19.3 MPG per tank depending on how much fun I have. Except on "drives" in which I don't track MPG.

I started all over again today and maxed my range to 507 after all ready driving 60 miles on a fresh tank of 89.

As you can see, my speed drop down to 30mph and then i hit stop and go traffic the rest of the way to work.

When I was driving the MINI I was getting around 30 with mixed driving. On friday I switched to the Q7, now I'm getting about 14, even with mostly freeway driving. I just don't understand why anyone would want to drive a giant SUV on a daily basis? I can't wait to get back in the MINI.

def get a 6 speed TDi. . .i have a 5 speed and it's def missing a gear. . .if i had a 6th gear, i'd be averaging about 55mpg at the avg speed 75mph (we have higher speed limits here in Mich). . .

i don't do a lot of highway driving (just to school and back and around town). . .but i average about 40+ mpg in the city. . .and if i drive it on the highway at 75mph and do my best not to lift, i can get about 51+.

I don't track my mileage on the 89 GTI, but it usually gets around 30mpg - up to about 35mpg when I'm driving it to campus (20 miles from Mira Mesa to San Marcos.

I do track my Pathfinder though; I haven't been driving it much, but here are the stats:

Date of last fill up: 4/8/2008
Total miles at fill up: 16446
Miles traveled since penultimate fill up (3/17/2008): 224.3
Gallons purchased: 12.452
Miles per gallon on penultimate fill up: 18.01317058
Price per gallon at fill up (91 octane): $3.919
Total price of fill up: $48.80
Total gallons (91 octane) consumed since purchase (2/24/2006): 987.0507011
Total paid on gas since purchase: $3112.32
Average price per gallon since purchase: $3.153151096

I knew my nifty spreadsheet would come in handy (other than for me to dork out on).

diesel isnt veggie juice, neither is biodiesel.
unless your car is running carrots i wouldn't call it veggie juice
