I just got myself into an 03 audi a4 1.8t. its got a 90 day warranty from the dealer. when i hit a series of small bumbs, the front end seems to be making an odd sound much like loose change.

suspension feels stiff, steerings tight, lugs are snug, i don't know. the dealer drove it and said they didn't hear anything - of course not.

anyone had similar experience, or offer up any ideas as to what it is?

thanks,

Loose change? Is it more of a high pitched clanking noise like that, or a clunking? How many miles are on your car?

Most cluking front end noises are caused by bad control arms or tie rod ends. Humming sounds would be your wheel bearings, and a clicking when you're turning is your cv joints.

Maybe a heat shield is bouncing when you hit the bumps and smacking something?

Dude, I think I figured it out. The plastic grilles near the fog lamps are loose. I haven't quite taken an in-depth look at the situation, but i can wiggle them with my fingers. I'm sure there are some screws or something i can tighten. Thanks for the quick response.

try that...is it just over bumps or even when you drive normal..it maybe a loose or worn down bearing...good luck :tup2:
