View Full Version : XBOX 360 Owners bitch thread.........
How many of you have had issues with your XBOX 360? I have seen statistics, that state 40-60% of the consoles have some sort of a defect issue.
My first one took a shit within 3 months when the disc tray would never close, it would close then open back up, called Microsoft, got the UPS box, it took THREE MONTHS to get me a refurbished console with a one month free card of XBOX live.
The refurb unit they sent me, lasted about 11 months, now freezes and won't read discs and is now a decoration in my entertainment center, unfortunately for me, the warranty was up, according to the guy at Microsoft, only the consoles that got the "Red Ring of Death" got a three year extension, So after a few choice words they decided to "extend" my warranty to cover this one, they are sending me the box for shipping, assured me that I would have coverage on the replacement console if (when) #3 decides to take a vacation too and quoted me 4 weeks to receive a repaired or replaced console.
I will seriously think twice about buying ANY hardware from Microsoft again.
And god damn I had my preorder for GTA IV since January, of 2007!!!!! I barely got to play it ......................

Sucks to hear that Mike.. Every console has its issues, just bad luck I guess.
Edit: I was reading up on some game forums and it seems that the freezing is a symptom of RROD. The solder joints are becoming loosing between the CPU and GPU. Hopefully you get your new system on time and get to play GTA soon.
In the meantime, if you want to get your GTA fix we could always have a game night at my place!

I got mine as on the first release, and I had a disc read issue. I guess it was pretty common for the first batch. Sent it to MS, the fixed it and sent it back within 3 weeks, and I haven't had a single problem since, and that was almost 3 years ago.

I've had no problems w/ mine... When it's used, it's used for circa 15 hours, I only use it when friends are over and most of the time we're using it all night. So yeah, the system gets fairly hot, but it hasn't had any problems... I also use a floor fan to keep the hot air it vents away from it. So that helps a ton...
Other than that... It's only seen about one week, if not 5 days of total use.. It's a dust collector.
Also have a feeler up in the classifieds...

If you are getting a bunch of freezing, primarily when playing GTA4, its a known GTA4 issue. Its apparently much worse on the PS3 than the 360. All electronics have problems. I had the red ring of death a couple of months ago and that was the first and only issue since I got the 360 when it first came out (and I have put a LOT of hours into mine).
I put hours at a time on mine 5 or 6, plenty of fresh cool air, I started getting this message a few months ago, maybe once every couple of weeks, then once a week, now twice a day. I used compressed PC cleaner air to blow out the drive, no good. I hope my next console turns out to be as reliable as yours.
Rento, sorry about this thread, I didn't know you had a classified ad out, I hope this doesn't effect your sale.

Mine was good before it got jacked. Never had a problem for over a year of ownership.
Edit: I used to be a Beta tester for video games. You have no idea how many bugs go out in the first release of almost every game. But it's no ones fault, most games are tested for at least 9 months. Yes, imagine working on the same game for 9 straight months M-F 9-6 every single day. I worked on Caeser 4. Yes I wanted to shoot myself. Then I got to work on fishing :D.

No problem. I haven't had any issues with mine. Moreover, take it as a good word of advice that if you can get a floor fan or just a fan in general and place it so that it blows the hot venting air away from the 360. However, do not place a fan behind the 360 as that'll just blow the hot air back into the 360... No bueno...
Oh one more thing:
NEVER EVER FREAKING BUY THOSE INTERCOOLERS!!!
They do more harm than good, I don't care what anyone says, and "improved models" don't count... It's ~$15 which is the price of a decent (floor)fan, and "intercoolers" void your warranty, fans do not...

I got mine for x-mas but the manufactured date was in Sep of this last year. The ones that were made the month mine were and later have a better cooling fan in the and better heat sink. I have played mine for over 12 hours a day before with no issues or loud whines. If you go buy a new one most stores will let you open the box and check the born on date hehe.. except wallmart.

My first 360 died from the red ring of death. Got it replaced under warranty.
When I went to UPS to drop it off the guys working at UPS asked, "Xbox ?"
That's how often they break. There were two other people waiting at UPS picking up their repaired units.

Had mine just go down for the count again today... make that number 2. Called microsoft, it was 6 months out of warranty, and they said they would replace, no problem and even include a 9 month warranty for the new unit, along with a few extra months of xbox live, etc etc. At least they are honoring an out of warranty red ring of death.
I got my box yesterday, I will ship it out tomorrow, just a few more hits of GTA4......... It gave me the error message again lastnight and shut down....

I have had my 360 for about 4-5 months now... Has not had any issues with it at all...
Well only 1 small one, and I think because the disc was dirty...
It made the whole screen turn semi red. (red pixel dots all over the screen) and was stalling up a bit. I reset it, cleaned the disc, put it back in, and it has been working flawlessly ever since. GTA4, Call of Duty 4, Dirt... Every game has ran just fine. No problems at all. Oh, I don't know if this matters, but my console is the one that has the HDMI output in the rear on top of the regular outputs. :) Been hooked on that GTA4 every damn day!

I should report, I got mine back last friday, so a week and a few days ago, having given it an 8 hour run of GTA4, on a straight sitting, with no issues, I call mine fixed.

Just reporting that my PS3 has not had any issues, and for the few people that had GTA4 lock up on them, there is a patch to download . . . ohhh BTW, they haven't found a fix for the XBOX version.
And on a side note, Smash Bros FTW!!
:D
See, the funny thing is, before I sent mine out for repair, not only would I get the "unable to read disc" error, on several games, my GTA4 would freeze, and only GTA4, several times a day, an hour in, or 10 minuets into a game. Since I've been playing non stop, no issues, so I wonder if it was something in the console. I have a friend who is a computer guru, he took a couple apart and found that when they get really hot, the solder joints start to separate around the chips and connections, makes sense to me.

I agree with the heat issue with the xbox . . . why are people so against the external fans. Blowing air over the heat sinks seems like a great idea to me . . . if running a fan on a USB port on the game console somehow generates so much more heat, than how did they expect the HD-DVD drives to work? Or anything else XboX added to their systems?
I know when I shut my doors in my entertainment system, my PS3 sounds like a 747 taking off . . . the fan is like super powered, maybe they learned something from microsofts shortcomings. I added the front usb fan and the rear usb fan and now the system fan rarely turns on.
air gets sucked in the vent holes, and blown out the back, most of the "clip on" fans I've seen, blow air backwards through the exhaust, basically superheating the air. Best bet with both platforms is to get a little 6-8 inch 110V fan and just keep cool air circulating around the platform and don't keep either one in an entertainment center, my cabinet/table for my flatscreen has one side dedicated for the console.

Ohhh . . . so the jackass that designed the fans put them in backwards huh?? hahaha
