Has anyone been watching Carrier on KPBS? I would like to hear your thoughts on the show. Feel free to include thoughts on all aspects of the making of the show. I will share my thoughts, but I would like to hear the thoughts of others, first.
And please note whether you are in the military, and if so, what branch?

I'm Navy, prior Fleeter on the USS Germantown (LSD-42). I seen about 3 of the 8 shows I believe there were. I gave it 4 out of 5 stars. The main point was getting the thoughts, lives and daily issues of the deck plate workers. Being it, that nothing can be perfect even a documentary. This was pretty darn good. Carriers usually get the best of the Navy including supplies, state of the art stuff, and port visits. I respected the documentary in a whole.

Ok, first of all, I'm Tony. I'm a Navy helicopter crewman and I have been in for 15 years.
That show is terrible.
It portrays the Navy in the worst way. I am embarrassed to work with such a large group of whiny little brats. They let everyone speak their minds, and unfortunately, most of them did just that. Those that weren't questioning the president were questioning their chain of command. Those that weren't questioning their chain of command were bitching about life on the ship. Is there any enlisted person on that ship that doesn't have problems, or hate their job or have problems with everyone else on the ship? How about the girl who says how she lost all her freedom but that's just like being in the United States. Is she F'ing kidding me? She has the freedom to say whatever the hell she wants without fear of any reprocussions (and apparently without any fear of editing) and she pulls out that little nugget?
How about the 'Oh shit, there's a camera. I gotta put my "I'm in charge" hat on.' People are bitching people out, every chance they get. The only people who are happy are the pilots, but they live in a completely different world, onboard the ship.
Did you catch the girl who pointed the knife at her supervisor in the galley? It was subtle, but she did it while she pissed at him because was being dick. Of course, in his interview, he said that girls are always looking to scam out of work.
There was a kid who was trying to become an AW. (I am an AW) He kept bitching about how one guy was keeping him from doing what he really wanted to do. Then we find out (from "THA MAN") that he had a little underage drinking thing in ihs record. I do not want that kid in my shop. I want the kid who has a clean record and takes responsibility for his actions.
I think the religion episode is the worst. Ok, we're the United States. We have religious freedoms that other countries could only dream about. And we take those freedoms out to sea with us. That's great. But did we really need to acknowledge the witches? I don't even think we needed to acknowledge the atheists, and they're "my people." But the atheists did mention that they hate the evening prayer, especially when they bless equipment and the reactor division and stuff like that. Of course, that would mean that the atheists see themselves as a religious group. And if the atheists are going to be represented, it's only fair that the Flying Spaghetti Monterists be represented as well.
But I was very happy to find that god forgave the guy who slept with that girl in Australia. It looked like a pretty honest mistake.
The AOs. What?
The pilots spend a lot of time questioning their CO and XO. The
I think that show made almost everyone on it look like a total ass. I can't believe that all made it to production. What ended up on the cutting room floor? Anything? Does anyone on that ship like their job? Can anyone come up with a thought of their own instead of quoting some shit that they heard on CNN? Do these people realize that they are in the F'ing military?
Discuss.

I have seen the show once, but overall I liked it. One interview that stuck out was when they were talking to one of the ordenence guys and every other word from his mouth was bleeped out. What a way to represent your m-effen self and the navy.

LOL.. the funniest part its... I'm attached to an NROTC, and the NROTC CO said the show was good for midshipmen to watch so they could understand the life of their Sailors on ship. He made it seem like he was pretty confident, and comfertable with what was portayed on the series as accurate.
*Disclaimer* - I know nothing of being on a ship, nor have I seen the show.

It is a documentary. Thats how it is at sea. Thats how it is in the Navy. I just wish they showed more of the other aspects of the ship, instead of just the flight deck.

i never understand when people bitch about their job in the military when they themselves get a chance to pick it.
if you pick it then you stick with it no bitching allowed!
or cross train into a field that you do want to do or shut your mouth finish your term and gtfo!
