I remember being out in waves that were around 12' or so, and getting wrapped up in one... I didn't like it much. It was last summer at Del Mar (on Camp Pendleton). The water was like glass all the way out, then BAM, big ol' wave. Well, big to me, and a wicked current too.

yeah thats pretty scary!!
If you look at the surfers at blacks, the guy in the far left of the screen stops paddling, stands up on his board, and dives into the ocean. Don't see that too often.

I would rather meet with that wave than a Great White Shark. Within 10-15 seconds the nightmare is over, but with a Great White Shark? hahahah, good luck!

Oh, believe me.... you can be held down for much longer than 10 - 15 seconds when Blacks is firing. That place literally scared me on several occasions where I thought that "this was it". Then I came to the surface with a snapped leash and had no clue where my board was.

I hear ya, gigantic waves are scary indeed. But are you saying that you'd rather meet, come face to face with a great White Shark than a big wave like that?

I take my chances with both when I surf... but realistically, death would be more likely from that huge wave, than from a shark. Not the case where I am now. This is Bull shark heaven here, with small waves unless theres a hurricane coming!

For much of SD its up there, but your right, not that big. See Jaws, or Cortes Bank for BIG!
Not quite as big, but potentially more dangerous is Teahupoo, see for yourself!
