Open up command prompt (Start > Run type: CMD)
Then type in the black box: /ipconfig release
Then after that is done "loading" type in /ipconfig renew (since you are using wireless, you might not have to do that step).

Also goto your network connections and make sure you don't have any Set Settings:
(Start > Control Panel > Network Connections > Right Click on Your Wireless > Properties > Middle Box Scroll to Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) > Highlight and Click Properties) and make sure all those radio (check circles) are selected for automatic and not manual settings.

well you can start by rebooting.

Reboot your computer and reboot the router (unplug it from power for thirty seconds and then plug it back in).

See if it clears up then.

a fix I like to use is just power cycle the router. Unplug it and wait 30 seconds, then plug it back in. Sometimes it acts wacky and a power cycle is all it takes. if this happens frequently, you can also connect to your router via ethernet and see if it has a utility to update the firmware.

ALso you may want to clear the history of all your previous wireless networks you've connected to. We had an issue with dell's getting confused with all the wireless networks in it's memory.

sounds like the network key you entered it wrong

it sorta connects, but never really authenicates, so it cant get the IP information from the DHCP server

if the network key is correct, i would reboot router and the computer and retry like the guys suggest above

there should be an IP for the router (below, default)

http://192.168.1.1/

where you can login to update/change/view settings

If you do this, the router will prompt you for the router admin password ... if you can't remember the router admin password either, then there should be a reset switch on the back of the router which you'll need to hold down for a couple of seconds to return the router settings to factory defaults ... then look in the user manual, or search the router manufacturer's website online, to see what the factory default password is ...
