I figured I should post up here about this since I only got interested after looking at the pinned post at the top of the forum.
This is my first actual attempt at HDR. Cannon 1d MarkII, 15mm, six exposures all at f22 with different exposures, shot in Barcelona last week at around 5:30am (thank you jet lag):

Cannon 1d MarkII, 70mm, one exposure cut into five via photoshop, also in Barcelona:

I'm into the HDR stuff, but I'm not sure if it'll work in a professional aspect for me, since i seem to get a lot of mixed results with action photos. Still interesting, though.

Thanks. None of the images I've made with photomatix have been perfect. Seems like the program has a lot of problems with consistency (the clouds over taking the building and the general light haze around the building) and the in-betweens (the sky on the outside of the palm trees vs. inside on the second photo).
It really is hard to look at a digital photo normally now that I know what can be brought out of it now, though. Sort of like I'm glad that I'm into it, but mad at the same time. If that makes sense.

To get them to look right, you need to do tone-mapping. Photo mattix is terrible at tonemapping, and it is IMPOSSIBLE to do a proper HDR with a dynamic range of more than 5 or 6 stops without using multiple exposures. all these people trying to do HDR's by pulling 5 exposures from 1 raw file will always have terrible results. It's not technologically possible.

Got a tutorial on tone mapping that you can link me to? I pretty much just jumped into it after glancing through an online how-to tutorial; I surely need something more in depth than your average 'generate an hdr' tutorial to be happy with the results. Thanks.

I cleaned the sensor before I left, but yes. Another downfall of photomatix; it sees a small speck and adds detail to it.

Love the first pic.
I'm so jealous. I love Barcelona. What an AWESOME City. If you're still there jump a boat to Ibiza and party like tomorrow is a rumor. :D

Yeah. Ryan Fudger and Chris Meyers used to run that site. They slowly ran out of time to update the site and what not. Ryan now works for Ride BMW Magazine as an editor/photographer, and Chris I'm pretty sure is still riding. But he didn't want to run it by himself. That site was awsome...shame to see it and Dirt Bros. go down in flames.

Cuz people who drive vw's are poor and used to them breaking so they need alternate transportation.
