I have a 2005 1.8l GTI with about 35k on it.... Bought the car 2 months ago with 31k on it...
Scanned it shortly after buying it and driving for a bit, no codes.
Scanned it again about a week or so ago, and now Im getting:
3 Faults Found:
16684 - Random/Multiple Cylinder Misfire Detected
P0300 - 35-00 - -
16685 - Cylinder 1: Misfire Detected
P0301 - 35-00 - -
16686 - Cylinder 2: Misfire Detected
P0302 - 35-00 - -
Probably coil packs right??? So which coil packs are the best replacements??? And who sells them around OC if possible??
Also anyone know what caused this code?? Didnt have it when I bought the car, its popping up now:
1 Fault Found:
00858 - Connection; Radio ZF Output to Antenna Amplifier
36-00 - Open Circuit
Any ideas??
Thanks!

Do you have an aftermarket radio?
There is a powered signal amplifier on the antenna. Yours doesn't seem to be getting power or might be malfunctioning.

try the ecs revision coils...or other places like perf cafe...have you check the plugs...because it could also be that...and while your replacing the coils it may be a good idea to do the plugs too

Oooops forgot to mention, I just had an oil change and the plugs replaced last week
I had only one cylinder throw a code, I cleared it, had the tune up done, and now its showing 2 cylinders....

try swapping out the coils with cylinders 3 and 4 and see what happens...if the codes switch to those cylinders than its your coils fer sure

Oddly the car on startup is alot smoother at idle and I do notice the car isnt as snappy as before between idle and when boost hits... not sure if that makes sense....
I have to find out, but the plugs are recommended plugs....

ya try switching the coils...well as far as plugs i switched to the famous brk7e's and that actually brought more problems than ever before...with the correct gapping...so i switched to OEM plugs and been running great ever since...good luck...hope its just ur coils

ehh hard to say...because i think thats considered a maintance part...something that is supposed to be replaced...give them a call and tell them what you think it is and see what they say...if its not replaced by them check out a site ill send you through pm...i got my coilpacks from there and it was the best price i could find...and i searched :D

Every coil pack I've had fail has started misfiring a little under load just shortly before crapping out completely. I just get whatever revision pack the dealer is currently selling from wherever I can get it the cheapest.
Your plugs are also colder than the stock plugs. They will stress a coil on its way out and are a bit more sensitive to proper gap and and all that.

if your gonna spend the $$ on the coils looking to the audi tt style..the ones you can bolt down...ive heard alot of good things about those

Do places like Kragen or Autozone carry decent coilpacks???
Also what the hell is so hard about making a coil pack last??? :) the design cant be that complicated!!!
I did purchase an extended warranty with my car(kinda was mis-lead, but oh well) so I think I will get a claim and get the car fix with that....
