what is a steady increase in boost that the ko3s can handle and still last long?
cause im boostin at 20-22 psi and i just want to make sure i wont blow it too soon or turn down the boost.

anytime you increase the boost you stress the turbo...if you have the supporting mods to help aid that extra boost...ie fuel upgrades, intercooler, etc..and if you take care of it then it should last...i was running that same boost level for almost 3 years on my car before i went BT...no problems...it also depends on how you drive...and if you give your car time to cool off..i say invest in a good turbo timer...and watch how your car acts and adjust accordingly...and of course only 91 octane...id recommend for daily driving...dont go past 15lbs and on the weekends if you wanna have fun turn it up...good luck

x2 for an upgrade smic. it will cover your needs well, and at far less than the cost of a big new fmic. tyrolsport, boost factory, and eurojet make them, and there's probably others out there as well. that combined with water/meth injection will work wonders. they'll be a couple of the first mods on my next 1.8t

oooo sweet!
how much for the upgraded smic?
and how much would the water/meth setup be?

eurojet is 599-649, depending on where you look
tyrolsport is 749 (might as well get a front mount)
boost factory is 750
water/meth kits run around 300, depending on what kind/fluid capacity...
finally, pwrhaus.com has front mount kits for cheeeeeap.
400 for the "street" kit and 500 for the "race" kit, which is 4 inches taller.

well both the boost and tyrol have been proven to be just as good or better than some FMIC i think it depends on if your going for stealth or show

Are you asking about the life of the turbo or the entire engine. If you're asking about the turbo itself, intercoolers, upgraded fueling systems etc. have little to no effect on the turbo's life. Intercoolers cool the intake charge after its been through the turbo and upgrading the fueling system will assure you don't lean out.
You are running a K03 sport which by most standards is a tiny turbo. To make matters worse, it has a small 4mm central shaft. To judge the limits of the turbo itself, you need to plot your flow rate and pressure ratio on a compressor map and determine if you are in the turbos working limits. 20psi is probably, right about at the choke line on a K03S depending o at what RPM you are talking about. More than likely it would have trouble even hitting 20psi at the high end. I haven't actually plotted one so that is an estimate. You can probably get away with it for short bursts, but it will shorten the life of the turbo.
like EuroTuner said, turbo timers are a good idea. New turbos are watercooled, so the need for them isn't as great as it once was. If you don't want the expense and complexity, just let your car cool down a little before shutting it off if you have been driving hard.

alright cool.
yeah im gonna mess with it and lower the boost and see if i can get a good steady 16-18 without the shaking.
the boost gauge fluctuates super fast when it does.
i did it today and it shaked for a minute then went steady until i let off the gas.
then sometimes it would shake when i hit 15 psi.
someone should ride with me at the meet and i'll show you what im talking about.

what do you mean fluctuates? is it surging?
lifeisshort117

no its not surging.
it was because i was misfiring cylinders 1 and 2.
but i got all 4 new ones today and put them in and the problem is gone.

cool did you get new coils or plugs?
lifeisshort117
06-03-2008, 07:29 PM
just new coils.
misfiring doesnt affect the spark plugs.
but sometime soon i will get new spark plugs as well.
i just got the coils first because.
1. they are more expensive so i get it out of the way.
2. it would fix the problem immediately.

misfiring can foul the plugs...especially if not gapped properly...i know from experience

well since i was misfiring i probably misfired 3-4 times.
and that was for about a second so i think they will be okay for a while.
until i replace them.
but i know i will get new ones for sure.
any recommendations?
