It has to do with the power recepticle. Any suggestions on a new portable laptop. I liked i because it has a big screen and was super thin. Also, what should I bee looking for in terms of hardrive, processor, etc.

I'm looking for an Acer right now, they seem to be the better deals.

I wouldn't get anything under 1.7ghz; I'd prefer 2ghz+
definitely suggest minimum 1gb ram; 2gb and you're golden
and at least 80gb on the hard drive; again 160 is a good point to reach for

Even if you decide you want to replace your notebook, you may be able to repair the current one and use it for surfing the web on your sofa, car pc etc. ...

1. if you know someone who knows how to solder, you can just purchase the DC power jack e.g. http://www.laptopparts.com/dcjack/default.asp?searchbrand=sony, or http://doctorlaptop-repair-jack.com/

2. you can send it to a repair service, and let them deal with it all: http://comprehensivecomputing.net/power_jack_repair.htm

I don't know or have any association with any of the above sites, so can't vouch for them ... I'm think of getting my old Sony Vaio Z505 power jack repaired, and using it with a USB GPS puck for GPS and general media use in the car ...

Rally . . . thanks so much, I'm gonna call the computer repair place and see what they can do. I'll let you know how it goes.
