That's right ladies and gentlemen. Tempt Media is hitting up El Mirage for our third visit to the lake bed. Last two times have been a blast and we have enjoyed meeting new forum members from all sorts of different forums each time. This time should be no different.

We are heading out on Saturday, February 19th for a full day of fun (if weather permits).

What to bring:
1) Two way radios.
2) Water and Food that wont rot (it should be 65-75 degrees).
3) A small tool set.
4) Cameras.
5) Your car.
6) Chairs.

What to leave home:
1) ALCOHOL. Bring it and I will have a ranger escort you off of the premises.
2) **** Heads. We already had one mishap with some dumb asses breaking the rules. If you come with us then follow the rules.
3) Guns. There is no shooting allowed there. It is the middle of no where, but guns are still not allowed.

What not to do:
1) DO NOT BREAK THE LAKE BEDS SURFACE.
- NO BURNOUTS.
You can drift and drive the piss out of your car but don’t roast tires in one spot. It leaves holes and can causes serious accidents.

Tempt Media is not responsible for any lost or damaged goods. Bring everything at your own risk. I hope to see many of you there.

Here are some photos and videos from our past meets:

I think I am down to go, but what exactly do you do out there? The videos just showed people driving in circles and drifting. How much space do we have to test acceleration, etc?

John, I was hoping you would join us again, I'm looking forward to hanging out. Maybe this time I won't be sick from the god damn 110 degree weather. :smokem:

Lon, the lake bed does not ruin your car unless you leave our section and don't check which part of the bed you want to drive one. However, i do understand you thinking about leaving the car because it is EXTREMELY clean. Ponder it for a while and if you still want to roll out but want to keep the car clean then thats fine too.

Douglas, yes there is a place(right down the center of the lake bed) where you can test acceleration, do brake tests, and top speed runs. We had an evo break 155 and a couple of M3's break 150 I believe. See you there.

So i'm kind of confused. Will you be joining us or not? We would love to have ya out there you just kind of lost me. See you there hopefully, :D

I am very interested if you can tell me the "approximate" length of the longest area you will be using? I really, really want to know top speed of my car since the last amount of work put in! But, I want a very safe environment and unfortunately the tracks I go to do not have any long enough straight aways.
Please let me know asap so's I can lock it in the calendar!
I wanna go 175!!!!!!!!!

It's about 50 miles west of Palmdale.

Man Jewel,
That is a good question. I will call their and do my best to find out. I think the long straight where people do their top speed trials might have been a mile long...I will find out ASAP though. WE had a evo doing 155 for a while so I am pretty sure that the straight is rather long.

some questions answered...

yes it is completely legal. there is one rule though, they just dont like people breaking up the surface by doing burnouts or donuts. unfortunately last time we did have people doing this even though we warned them. el mirage two, we even had some of the rangers hang out w/ us for a few minutes and ask questions about the cars. so just obey that one rule and we will be fine. the main surface is very smooth, although if you're by the edges of the flats you might wanna take it below 15mph, there can be a lot of bumps, dips, and what not. also a fair warning, leading into el mirage is a gravel road that can be of slight worry, just keep it below 15mph and you'll definitely be fine. jewel, i think the longest usable straightaway would be around 2-3 miles, like olek said we had an evo doing 155, even though quite a bit of the dry lake was being used to hold an event. i would have been hitting that too if i didnt show up too late :smokem:

as far as location its about 45 min away from ontario. if anybody wants we can meet up at my place or somewhere around here. just pm me if you're interested.

Old man?

You're more of a codger than me lady... I'm just working on my first 2 puppies and you've already got a managerie.

If you're going to this let me know so I can ride up w/ you ;)

Jewel
01-11-2005, 12:30 AM
Well, I am definitely going to try and make this thing. I've ridden there on motorcycles and the surface is mostly good, except the very edges like said. I just couldn't remember how long a stretch you could get.

Alan, yeah I'm older than you, but you act older, heh.

If I am able to make you can definitely hitch a ride, but you will have to sign a waiver first, hehe

Alan_One
01-11-2005, 01:10 AM
Who is the waiver?

Does he just sit there and move his open hand back and forth pivoting at the elbow?

Why are people always made to sign him?

Has anyone ever asked him if he likes being written on?

What "IS" a codger?

Does a DNA signature count?

There's DNA in piss right?

One more question,
Is this "controlled"? Just in the sense that say, for example, I am doing a straight speed run, are others allowed to be practicing their drifting or do you have someone controlling who's out on the lake doing what at the same time? I don't wanna have to hurt someone for blowing through a dust cloud and hurting my car ;)

525iT_Feen
01-25-2005, 10:23 AM
Brad, I only know of a caravan leaving riverside being organized on bimmerforums. Not sure who is from SD...

Jewel, with a group of cars as large as this we will orgnaize running groups. The str8s are in a different section from the part where you can drift. Visibility is good but we will do our best to make it safe. Especially if you are going to do 100mph+ runs.

I will ask my friend Jensen...He is our CA map guru.

Your air filter will probably be dirty. We always have to pressure wash ours when we get back home. The best person to ask on this forum is John(3THREE7). He has been out with us before and his car is imaculate...so he would be able to give you his honest opinion.

Mine; if you are willing to do the cleaning required then bring it, if you are worried that the car will get to dirty or to beat out there then don't...The pictures are the best way to judge...
