I was on the site RossTech. The software is from RossTech, but can't I use anyother VAG-COM cable to link up? Do I have to use RossTEchs?

The latest software requires one of the new Ross-Tech cables. The cable acts as a dongle to unlock the software.

The older Ross-Tech cables can still be used with the older software but you will have to get a key from the company to unlock them. You can always trade in your old Ross-Tech cable for credit towards a new one.

If you bought a generic cable off of ebay, its not a VAG-COM cable. Only Ross-Tech makes VAG-COM cables. You can only use the shareware functions of the older Ross-Tech software if you're lucky.
