I tried when it was in beta version . . . I didn't like how it managed the bookmarks even though it was supposed to be an improvement.
Thoughts . . . ?????

I hate the "Awesome Bar" with a passion but it seems the fine folks that develop firefox don't give a damn about their users and removed the option to disable it.
Now I have an extension that kinda sorta disables the awesome bar and makes it work like it used to.

fixed your response. thanks for the info! i almost thought i was on vortex for a second :D
i figured i had an earlier version since there's no crazy stuff on my browser. apparently pre-version 3 firefox kicks ass.

I just d/l'ed it and using it now. I don't like how it pops all sorts of stuff up when typing in a URL at the location bar.

just installed it on my Mac. seems ok so far, but I liked my AcidRain skin for 2.0. hopefully the skin will be updated to work on FFox 3.

What don't you like about the awesome bar? As I've gotten used to it, I've begun liking it.

Downloaded it today, but I'll be waiting until a couple of my extensions are updated. Also waiting for the next build of Mozilla Weave to be released on Fri (hopefully), to replace Google Browser Sync.
I downloaded it an I'm using it now, haven't had time to flip through it and try to see what all has changed.

I tend to go to specific URLs so the way it finds recommendations just doesn't fit well with how I work. On top of that, I just find it big and ugly and not all that "awesome". If I wanted bloat, I'd use IE.

Firefox 3 is pretty cool so far
has some new fancier stuff, not sure if its bloat yet, but so far so good

I've managed to limit the irritation with
http://www.labnol.org/software/browsers/prevent-firefox-showing-bookmarks-address-location-bar/3636/
Beware the typo: browser.urlbar.matchonlytyped should be set to True, not False

Watch how the location bar, now the "Awesome" bar, works. You'll notice its very different. Its not just the layout, its how it actually picks the locations to show you while you are typing.
Its not a horrible change until you realize you can't turn it off. I think not being able to get rid of it pissed me off more than the way it functioned.

That's how my old FF2 worked... I had no problem with it *shrugs* I actuallyl ike that because I get so lazy to reach over and push a certain button, I'd rather push the down button a few times and than push enter....
This is just more bulky...

When you start typing in the address bar in FF2, it would only match the URL of pages you had been before.
With the new "Awesome Bar" in FF3, when you start typing in the address bar, not only does it do a match based on URL, but it also looks in the page titles of pages you visited before.
Personally I like it. On any given work day, I visit anywhere from 200-350 different web pages looking up references and getting info. Many times I don't remember the URL if I need to go back to view the info again so I just start typing a keyword or two and the page shows up in the list, usually in the top 3.
Also, the interface is much better integrated into each OS; Mac OS X especially.
I also find FF3 to be much better at memory management, its memory footprint doesn't balloon like FF2 used to. Also, FF3 doesn't crash nearly as often as FF2 used to.
So overally, I'm extremely happy with FF3.
