So if you want the Chat Box back... We gotta get some votes... and don't be a noob and look at the thread and not vote.
You clicked the thread, you may as-well click a bubble and hit vote.

Haha.
Well, I would vote, but I think the MODS/ADMINS have made it clear that it kind of slows everything down. :(
GL with the poll

*sigh* I wish this was official... 14 vs 10...
Chat box material: I don't get her, is she playing me? Is she even single? And apparently she works there due to the help of her ex-boyfriend who works there.... The hell?!

I thought we agreed that we would bring it back under the broken chat link. We didn't want it on the main page or the top of the forum pages anymore due to the excessive number of http requests it generates. Under the chat link, we avoid that concern and everyone still gets the chat if they want it.
It will come back when we get a chance.

Let it be dead..... lame
Its not going to be such a central feature on the site like it was before.
Before, it was everywhere and all it did was suck capacity. I don't mind it being in one spot where it doesn't affect those of us who don't want to use it.

It wouldn't slow people down if they have it disabled though, would it not? Or are we talking in-terms of the actual server?
Where's this chat link? Chat box is better since it's more... longer lasting. But meh, can't complain.

I am concerned about the server. That chatbox was sending all kinds of http requests. They were small but there were a ton of them. It was like the death of a thousand paper cuts.
This is the joy of web development. A "new technology", and I use the term very loosely, comes out and suddenly people dive off the deep end with it. AJAX is the current abuse-du-jour.

Hey, something had to take Flash's position ...
When used correctly, Flash and AJAX are great technologies; however, both are easily abused.
Chatbox is great and all [cough], but I think we could either find a better solution than Chatbox or definitely keep it in its own section of the site that we must visit to use.

lol - most of the no votes are coming from the people that have been on the site the longest.

Been there done that with another forum that I implemented and admin'd. The AJAX shoutbox lasted about a week before I pulled the plug and just implemented a standard shoutbox that requires you to refresh the page.
