spending money on extras for the car have lost thier "joy". i think saving/spending money on parts has held me back on alot of things. like i couldnt do this or that because i just spent too much money or im saving for something. ive slowly been parting out my car and not spending money on it and actually been doing things!! haha, its going to take a while to get used to the stock suspension----but i can drive over speed bumps without coming to a crawl:tup:

ive been looking thru parts catalogs for roughly 10 years for the various vw's ive had. each one had some mod one way or another. but i think ive come to the peak on my vw mountain.

done, bye

I've been at that point for 6 or more years now- too many years and too much money spent on car/parts...that money could have funded so many other things...I made some good friends and have a ton of memories...but I don't think I can ever go back to blowing that kind of money on a car anymore...

same here i have been putting so much money into my cars since i was 17 and now im 25 and have 1 kid and another due next month. So now i need to focus more on my family than my car. i love modding and making it better and faster but now that im married and all its just not worth it all. i would rather spend it on stuff for my kids than a car.

Yeah.. at that point... Probably better to just save for a luxury car than keep upgrading a sports car. get a German auto and you'll have the best of both worlds.... MB S-Klasse? Audi S5? Ohhh yeah.... S5 *drool*

Well, I have been modifing my cars for 43 years. Never stopped. But it hasn't been all that many cars. You find a car you really like, that has basics that you want, and keep it for a while.

Then you set up a car fund. Just like you set up a college fund for your kid.

You automatically put a given amount in the fund, and when you have enough money in the fund, then you do a modification to the car. When you have the car mostly the way you want it, you just stop and enjoy the car for a while.

As an example, I have had my Coupe for 13 years. It was the car I wanted, and will probably the last car I will own as far as really modifing goes. It took 5 years before I made my first mods. Then 4 years later, I did so more upgrades. And now 4 years later, some more upgrades.

There won't be much left to do after this latest upgrade.

When my son went to college a few years ago, his education was fully funded, from his college account I started when he was one. He was never shorted, and I was never shorted.

Besides, he always loved riding in the 914, over Angeles Crest, on the way to Grandpa's house.

You don't have to be one dimensional, just do your mods in moderation, and have fun with other stuff along the way.

P.S. I have modified every car, truck, van, trailer I have owned, in one way or another.

I'm done dicking with cars also, time, money, problems, reason I bought the GLI, I don't have to mess with anything, then I dump money into it for something, I bought an old bug, have to spend time and money on that too, Now I look at a BT kit from VF, wheels and think I would rather go to out of the country for a while, buy stuff for the house or sock money away in my investments (not that those have done well as of late), I hear you I'm about ready to say F*&$ it and sell all of them and get just a basic set of wheels, call it a day and cruise around in my $20K dollar accord that never sees a dealer again until it gets traded in. Reason I sold my 911, I got sick of dumping money into a car I felt was a black hole. IF................ I ever get another toy car, its going to have dealer plates and need nothing out of the box, like a C6 Z06 or an e92 M3, or whatever the current platform is, but then the cheap ass in me says I'm nuts to spend that much on something with wheels................................. and I probably never will.
