Ok, so I need a little help here from the local VW brethren.

Cruising along, on my way home from work today I spot, what appears to be, a rut in the road, extending from far left to far right.

It looks like someone took a shovel and just dug out a piece of road about a foot long and a several inches deep. It was insane, just cut out a piece of the road- no warning or construction signs in sight.

So I'm barreling along and SLAM!.:banghead: I, unavoidably hit it. I immediately hear a hissing sound and feel the car become harder to control. I stick my head out the window and see it losing air fast.

I pull over and the rim is bent the f up. Well rush hour traffic is getting worse by the minute, so I cuss out the pitt of hell I just smacked, and do a quick change on the tire.

Which leads me to here, writing this. Basically I know it would be about a 100-150 to repair, and as 100 is what I paid, plus a set of Snowflakes w/ caps, I figure I'm looking to get a replacement or start shopping for a new set of wheels.

So I'm asking the local people, if you may happen to have an extra wheel somewhere lying around that I could run on, till I get my set sorted. Preferably with tire, so I could just roll, but even just a wheel.
Closest to 92116 San Diego would be great.

Just one, preferably an RA (which I would gladly buy), or just about anything that's not the wimpy a*s spare I was forced to commute home with.

Thanks

You can get reimbursed from Cal-Trans for damage from construction sites. Or try the streets dept. of whatever city you were in. You'll probably need to go back and take pics of the 'rut'. Good luck.

Those look like four lugs to me...I have 2 15" GT's that you can use or just buy them from me, tires are good and I'll sell em for 40.00 for both. I live in the 92117 area...

yeah, they're 4x100 15" BBS RA (MK2 GTI). But any 4x100 would work for a temp fix. Heck a 13" steelie would be better than the spare.

Sure. It's off the 805 Mira Mesa/Sorrento Valley exit, on the West side of the 805 (Sorrento Valley side). If you are going toward the 805 on Sorr Vall (eastbound) bout half mile from the freeway entrance.
WATCH OUT!
cuz you definitely wouldn't say: :hitit:

I have 4 RA's in my garage, but I think I am going to put them back on my GTI this month when I get new tires.

If you check Vortex, there is always someone selling RA's and even one or two at a time. You should be able to find a replacement for about $50 plus shipping.

lol, I work on that street Qualcomm, and yea...these idiots have been working on this little section for months now?? although I must say that they have done a good job in putting enough asphalt down in front of the metal plates when they had them, but the other side is a BIG HOLE. Sorry to hear you got caught in it..I almost did right before the New Year let in

Will be waiting for your call bro, Manny

are these 15". I saw some that look like them in a FS post on vortex, and they said theirs were 14". Are the GT's from a MKIII?

are these the same, or is my eye playing tricks on me?

c'mon you know you want to sell them. RA's are boring, get something new.
or if you want, i'll trade you my 3 + cash, for you're 4. then you can just keep an eye out for a spare.

Better than that chick who hit an aluminum ladder with her motorcycle on 163 near the 52... dead.

And better than that fool in the old Metro who hit a some POS that quit in the #4 lane on the 805 near Adam Ave... and then got whacked from behind by a pickup. He's dead too. (If he'd been in a VW, he'd probably still be alive.)

Be careful out there!

Yeah I saw that one ... the Geo was folded up like a Taco. It actually was rear-ended by a Rav4 which flipped over. But you look at the damage of the Rav, and then that of the Geo, and you realize why no one drives a Geo that can avoid it.
