In the moment
By Melissa Spiering
He sat on the edge to the sofa attached to game controller in his hand. He’s focus directed to the screen in front of him as his fingers fought each other on the buttons that commanded the action of his alter ego in 32-bit. I slid behind him and wrapped my body around his back side like a snake and watched him as though I was hiding from the back seat of a bus. His eyes never left the techno-colored flashing monitor and his hands never stopped moving.
As I lay behind him, I closed my eyes only to feel the violent movement that propelled from his hands as his clicked away at the controller. The rhythmic and demanding determination poured from his memory and expelled from his finger tips. That passion pulsated though his veins, though his skin and then on to my body. Then at a split second his body jolted with excitement for destroying the appointee came to be.
I opened my eyes and the trembling stopped. He took his wild eyes off clatter on the screen and he turned his attention to me, leaned over, kissed me and cracked a smile. Behind him, the screen flashed bright white, blue, then green and finally came to a stop reading Game Over.
