As a victim of Domestic Violence I understand all too well the psychological games that crazy males play with women and how we fall into the trap simply to show them we love them and to protect ourselves from further harm.
I kinda think that was the case with the Manson chicks. Chucky is clearly IN-FUCKING-SANE but I firmly believe in my heart of heart that the women weren't. I mean really, their choice was probably kill with me or be the next victim. That's what happened to the other girls.
As such, it saddens me that Ms. Atkins was not allowed release to die http://ap.google.com/article/ALeqM5gPEaudS_lS_tnlNi3-I1WezJD6WwD91UKP5OA
U.S.A. - Land of the free. BULLSHIT! 25% of the entire global prison population is in America and we make up only 13% of the planet. Prisons are now a Business, "The Prison Corporation." Letting people out hurts the shareholders. *deep sigh*
I can't say whether or not she is mentally stable at the moment since I'm not sitting on the psychiatric board at the prison, but I think you were right, Manson had them all so drugged out of their minds they would do anything and not realize it, or they would be in the desert dirt with the others, but since she has spent 4 decades behind bars, she may not be a rational person, or mentally able to adjust to being outside the walls, dying or not, IMO people can change but I would be interested to know what the real reasons were for her not being released to spend her last days with her family, spite from a prison board or doctor, political, maybe she shouldn't actually be out? Who knows.

Yeah. Good point.
Yet I can't help but wonder. Will her release affect the stock price of the prison corporation holding her in custody?
The state doesn't do that anymore. It's a for profit corporation building, filling and retaining high prison populations.
Yeah, prisons are being turned over to the private sector and being operated as a profiting company, IMO, if all States sat down and figured out where to draw a line on the people who we really need to be paying for 3 hots and a cot, they would open their eyes at paying a private company $50K a year to house some poor bastard that got caught with a bunch of weed or didn't pay his traffic tickets.

At the time, she was given life for a reason. Just because she has grown older and has developed a terminal desease, doesnt excuse her actions and maker her deserve to be set free. Victimize her all you want, she was found guilty 4 decades ago for a crime she committed.
im sure 100% of all the people in the jail system are all victims of something in their lives that DROVE them all to commit their crimes for which they were found guilty for. It cant ever excuse their crimes.
all I see is
"I'm on the rag. I hate men. I feel victimized and emotional. waaahhhhhhh.
This world I live in isn't perfect."

FOUR decades............. damn, I feel old............... yeah, a crime is a crime though, no matter how remorseful she is, her victims are still dead.
