This is just a YES/NO poll... No one is saying yet why they think this way. So let's not turn this into a thread that gets locked. Either it's YES/NO. Personal feelings should be left at the front door. Maybe some research backup to think why it would be banned, but let's keep the personal opinions on "WHY DO YOU GUYS THINK THIS WAY?!", or "geezz i dont know why people hate it so much just let the gay comunity be ". Nobody is hating on the gay community in here.

You're being narrow minded, not in the fact that you're knowledge of the term marriage is semi correct, but in your non-allowance of change. You have the right idea (let it happen), but by not calling it marriage would eliminate benefits, or create new article for equal benefits. Domestic partners do not get the same benefits as a married couple. So how many forms do you want a couple to have to fill out before they can pretend to be married?

For the sake of yourself and everyone else that pays TAXES, let it be called marriage, and let them be Happy!

marriage is NOT a religious thing (any more)...it's a governmental thing. It deals with parenting rights, insurance benefits, life insurance benefits, various other types of benefits. It deals with a legal relationship that exists between to two people who aren't tied by blood.

marriage has even less to do with religion than christmas has to do with jesus.

No, i'm just interested in hearing what everyone has to say regarding illegal immigrants. I work very closely with immigrants (both legal and illegal) and I am an immigrant myself (born and raised in costa rica). . . and I am trying to understand what thoughts people have regarding immigrants because I'm on the inside looking out.


I WILL say this: it's very, very, very hard to get welfare or any other type of public benefit if you are NOT a citizen or eligible alien. Impossible, actually. Hell, it's even hard to get just food pantry assistance at most gov't-funded programs. (this is NOT a topic for debate. I work at a law firm and we deal hand-in-hand with public benefits (for citizens). . . an illegal immigrant cannot and will not get welfare or any other sort of benefit. ever. won't happen. . .)


(note, I am not talking about cases of fraud. . .which are very hard to pull off and are hunted down by the gov't feverishly).


I think gays and illegal immigrants (and muslims) are the new minorities in this country. . . pre-civil rights it was blacks. . .now the shift has been toward other minorities.

I think the problem with this country today is over-legislation. . . we want to have a rule for everything, a law for everything. . . when in reality, certain things are best left for the community wherein one resides to solve.

NO PEOPLE, the constitution doesn't have all the answers. . . in fact, the constitution probably answers less questions than it poses. . . every time people try to legislate things, it just causes more problems.

thus, I think gay marriage is not a constitutional issue...it's a community issue. . . if people in CA thing gays should/can get married and people in Alabama don't, so be it.

i personally know of a person who left one state, moved for a (temp) job in a diff state, forgot to close her food stamps in her original state and is now banned for 10 years from ever receiving them. . .concurrent benefits carries a huge penalty.

fraud is an issue. always will be. but to blame illegals for all the fraud (or even more than a minute share of it) is just plain wrong (statistically). it's an easy and fast scapegoat. . .but it yields no real truth.

as per healthcare. . . I wouldn't have it any other way. . .they should never turn down a person based on their ability to pay. . . be it a US citizen or not. If you were shot and you needed help but had no money. . .they wouldn't turn you down. it's a great rule (whose roots are in medical professional ethics and not legislation, keep in mind). . .and ask any doctor, they agree with it.

I'm from NYC and about 60% of my friends where Immigrants. They worked and struggled so hard to be a part of America. They assimilated. They rarely spoke their native tongue and where embarrassed to forget a word in English. When they got their Green Cards we would have big parties and they where so proud of the YEARS of HARD WORK that it took for them to be an American.

Illegals are on par with cockroaches. They are an infestation that needs to be eliminated. Yeah, pretty harsh words, but let's look at it logically. Something Pro ILLEGAL ALIEN people are incapable of doing.

First, they BROKE THE LAW!

Finally, I utterly despise the bullshit argument that they came here to make a better life. THEN DO IT LEGALLY! Let's make an analogy...

Let's say I am a single mom that can help put food in my infant's belly and a roof over her head if I only had a car to get to a job. So, I go out and steal YOUR car. Using YOUR car I get the job and now me and my baby have three square meals a day and a roof over our heads in a small one room apartment.

Then, one day you show up with the Police and say, HEY Bitch! Gimme my car back! I tell the police that I only took it to make a better life for my baby. Then a group of loud obnoxious activists show up and start calling you a racist, they start calling you a sexist, they start calling you a male chauvinist pig. HOW DARE YOU WANT THE LAW TO BE UPHELD. HOW DARE YOU! SHE WAS JUST TRYING TO FEED HER BABY.

Because of the angry mob you not only never see your car again, but you must still pay the car loan for a car you will never ever see AND if you miss a payment then people will protest you.

That is what it's like for us CITIZENS being held hostage by Illegal Aliens for our tax dollars.

Let's say I am a single mom that can help put food in my infant's belly and a roof over her head if I only had a car to get to a job. So, I go out and steal YOUR car. Using YOUR car I get the job and now me and my baby have three square meals a day and a roof over our heads in a small one room apartment.

Then, one day you show up with the Police and say, HEY Bitch! Gimme my car back! I tell the police that I only took it to make a better life for my baby. Then a group of loud obnoxious activists show up and start calling you a racist, they start calling you a sexist, they start calling you a male chauvinist pig. HOW DARE YOU WANT THE LAW TO BE UPHELD. HOW DARE YOU! SHE WAS JUST TRYING TO FEED HER BABY.

Because of the angry mob you not only never see your car again, but you must still pay the car loan for a car you will never ever see AND if you miss a payment then people will protest you.

That is what it's like for us CITIZENS being held hostage by Illegal Aliens for our tax dollars.

One problem I have w/the above statement is if I do the research of my area, won't the data be good for only my area? This would not make me wrong because this is what goes on around me, but it may not be what's happening in Montana, or Iowa, or Ohio.

If you take Southern California: Los Angeles, Orange, San Bernardino, Riverside and San Diego Counties and look at Statistics on Crime. I don't think this is going to support your argument.

I can say from experience that the ratio of black/asian/whatever vs. Latino gangs (which have been reported to have quite a percentage of illegal immigrant membership)is quite one sided. There are virtually no SIGNIFICANT black gangs in Orange County. I'm willing to bet there are more Skins, Peckerwoods and white pride types than black gangs in O.C. There was Watergate back in the day, but I'm not sure they even exist anymore. There are entire cities (don't know about SD County in this statement) in the counties I've lived in that are entirely Latino gang dominated. From the officers I know Latino gang membership is suspected to be at least 50% of ALL gang membership in LA County. Especially telling is their view on 18th St. In 1995 they were said to have 20,000 soldiers (not to disrespect any actual, real soldiers or vets on here). The police believed that at least 60% of them were illegal.

Now I can't believe if we didn't just start really cracking down and deporting (and actually keeping out) illegals and criminal illegals (redundant, I know) we wouldn't put a significant dent in those numbers.

On another note. You CAN receive benefits from welfare (better known as AFDC - Aid to Families with Dependant Children) in California at least as an illegal alien. You just need an anchor baby. Family friends that work for the state and county as social workers tell me that since the baby is already a citizen it allows for the parents to receive the benefits allowed for that family unit. No baby, no money.

Illegal aliens have a negative affect on legal citizens lives, I personaly experianced hardships as a result of someone leaching off our system.

An illegal alien jacked my wifes ssn when she was a little kid. Asshole had been using it for years before we caught him by accident. The guy had a house insured throught the same company my wife worked for and she also had a policy with them. So one day she looks up her policy by her social number and a bunch of crap comes up. WE did more research and found all kinds of things attached to her ssn. Her credit score was low as hell and made financing a car for her impossible. The guy had over 4 cars (3 were repossed), had two houses (1 forecloser), 3 different child support checks, collected welfare for 7 years (yes it does happen mister legal guru), and had an ass load of credit cards that were maxed out and in collections. Now all this money that was lost due to this guys malice has to get paid for by someone. Who do you think it is, sure as hell isn't going to be him. When someone is living in the country illegally it is always costing somebody eles's tax dollar for him to live there even if they arn't a felon like the ass that screwed up our lives to the point that it took a good two years to fix. If this wasn't such a serious issue the US government would not be hiring Border Patrol agents at an all time high on top of sending in the US Army to reinforce the border patrol. If you snuck into my country the illegal way you can leave. As a citizen you contribute, as an illegal alien you are a parasite and need to go the fuck home.
