Uggghhh... Why Adam Corrolla? That guy is a tool. I'll stick with British Top Gear thank you. I have no doubt they are going to trash this show in trying to make it for the American audience. When in actuallity the show needs nothing to tailor it to the American audience. Why does America need its own Top Gear anyway?

This guy is a mastermind of wit, a professor of irreverant humor. The man, the myth...Mr. Adam 'ace' carolla, ladies and gentlemen.
VERY NICE PIC!
I personally think Adam is a great choice, he has a dry brash sense of humor, and is a car guy, owning Several euro's and other stuff from E30 M3 to a done up 510 to an 911 RS.
As far as America NEEDING a Top Gear of their own, meh, I was fine with the BBC's version, but it will likely be just as entertaining, we'll see what Clarkson and friends have to say on the idea......

I know and agree that he knows his stuff on the subject of cars. I have seen his collection and the man has taste. But I still think he is a tool.

Adam Carolla? Really?
I predict large periods of suck, with the occasional sprinkle of crappy.

He actually lives right down the street from my parents place (PM me stalkers :)), I see him driving his e46 m3 all the time. I actually pulled up next to him at a light by our house and got talking to him, he surprisingly knew all about the b5 and didn't even wanna try. He seemed pretty damn knowledgeable. Will anything ever compare to BBC's TopGear? No.
IMHO I think they should have went with Jay Leno instead.
I agree with what Alan said.

The best formula is to NOT copy the British variant. Americans have their own sensibility and it's best to play to that strength, allowing fans to enjoy either or both.
Imagine trying to import Doctor Who to the US and not changing much about it... better yet, remember the first episode of The Office and how much it sucked because it was literally the same script as the original British show.
Leno though would have been a much better choice, but unless Leno feels generous about doing it as a hobby (he loves cars and doesn't really need money), NBC can't afford him for that type of show............

The problem is that that "sensibility" is what makes Top Gear so successful. It's the combination of silly and serious that American shows, for whatever reason, just don't get.
I hope I'm wrong, but I envision a pale imitation of the UK Top Gear that sputters for a couple of years then dies out.
On a related note, has anyone noticed that the "Star in a reasonably priced car" segments seem to have gotten longer and more fawning?

Anyone else have a good host for the show? They would have to be a world class driver, and I'm sure Leno and Carolla are nothing like the UK hosts with their sic driving skills.
It will never be as good as the REAL Top Gear, but I just hope they don't totally butcher it.

That and the fact he flat out refused to do it, because he didn't want to ruin the Top Gear name... by his own hand.

you know in all fairness though i hope that the American Top gear does well. for some reason i have a feeling that with adam and tanner as hosts its going to be a lot let biased then top gear. dont get me wrong i love BBC's top gear, but sometimes those "blokes" are a little too biased. also, i have a feeling that tanner is going to dominate the show for some reason, may be because uh.....oh yea he already has his own show on speed and is actually a professional driver. hahaha. there will be real drifting and not just power sliding through corners with one finger with an evo.

got me tickets now boyehzzzzzzz ^^, anyone gonna be sporting sce shirts or gen sport. ill be there whit a gen-sport shirt and mi bro will be in his landeinwartsDubz summer wear :P
anywhos.... i have high hopes for the merc'n version of top gear. as most british contraptions (ie ac ace) when in the hands of a merc'n (ie shelby) can vastly improve upon said conjuration, many times over. as some of you may know that top gear is like a decade old and went through a hand full of revision and two or so cancellations in order to get where it is today. host have come and gone (ie tiff needle, vicky). infact it wasnt till tiff joined that it started to get a bit more lively, before it wasnt any better then pbs's motorweek.
and you ppl should stop bitching on said host. clarkson is some rich (writer) car buff like leno, the hamster was originally a bbc-radio2 dj and captain slow was a pianist before they took their current spots.
anyways, id still love to see leno drop by or have carolla challenge lenos "big dog" garage to some mischief, who knows leno may do the spin off and do fifth gear :P
oh and if i may, our ausie friends (forget who) and germany (sabine schmidtz) have their own versions of top gear aswell. maybe we'll have a world face off soon :)

Good thing is that it's just a few miles from my house.

X2, Leno would have been tight. I'll be interested in seeing how this show plays out. For sure it won't be as good as BBC's Top Gear, that show is something magical.

Damn... I just got home and all I can say is WHAT A DAY!! My feet are killing me... Overall its a cool show.... cant say its close to the original but its basically on its own but its decent....
Also anyone get that HD video look on the US version vs. more of a film look for the UK version???

Seriously my feet and knees are killing me! We were there for almost 9 hours! Overall the show was pretty cool.. but to be honest it seemed like the crew didn't know what they were doing (it is their first time so its understandable) We were all in a pretty big studio with a temperature that must have been 75+ for the whole time. After about 5-6 hours of sweating I got tired and needed some water. I went to grab a bottle and some lady in a rude tone told me I cant take that because its for the crew.. I asked where the water for the "show enhancers" was and she just shrugged. We didnt get any water until we were almost done taping at 8:30 or so! It was entertaining to watch though.. they did a good job, but the chemistry that Clarkson, Hammond, and May have just wasn't there.
Slapshotnerd
07-27-2008, 08:41 AM
was there from 2p - 9p. Was a little annoyed by that, but oh well. Again, this was the first time they were taping with a studio audience, and TV Tapings typically take 3-5 times as long as the show airs to get the audience taping done. Add a buffer since this was their first time, and that's about right.
Overall, I'd say the show will do quite well. You can't really compare the camaraderie from a TV show that has been taping for 11 years to the first episode of the first season. The hosts will grow together. The only thing I fear is that the American public doesn't see enough drama and 'reality' in it, and stops tuning in. I'd say the Average British viewer is much more intelligent and sophisticated than the Average American viewer.
We got water when they started filming the DB9 vs R8 segment. And again several times before the evening was done.
My gf was asked to be in the front row for the opening segment, but when the PA saw me and my 2 friends were all over 6', he told us we'd have to stand in back because we were 'too tall'. Although gf got selected to be in front for the map segment.

Yeah they definetly wanted all the cute girls to be on cam so it wouldn't look so much like a sausage fest....
The AP was cool but that fluffer, I mean warm up guy, was annoying after a while!!! :)
We did run into Tanner Foust at Elephant Bar after the taping... of course he went into the bar to get hammered!
