I have a Linksys wireless router, It works great, when it works, it seems about once a month or so, it goes down for no reason, I have to reset it, or, go through the entire setup process again to get it to work, its only 7 months old. Is this the norm? I'm thinking of getting another one, its just my PC, and the laptop and Xbox 360 that use WiFi. Yes/No any suggestions?

Linksys usually is pretty good. I have a D-Link and have been happy with that but never a problem really when I use to use Linksys.

Firmware? Update? I will check and see if it needs any updates..........

My p0rn habits I'm not worried about, I asked for the most bullet proof firewall for pRon surfing when I bought it..................

I've always used Linksys, never had problems. Let me know if there's something in specific you need help with.

What do you mean, "the entire setup process"? Usually when I have issues with any router, it was the ip's fault and a reset clears things up. If you're having to completely set up your router then it's probably not the ip.

It will basically have me start from scratch, I will have to enter the network name again, make a password, select encryption, have it go through the whole deal. A reset won't work.

I don't think its my ISP, I never had these problems until I used this router, and the having to completely re-setup the router almost every time, makes me think the router is the issue, its funny, even though I have to essentially re-setup the router , it remembers the network device names and IP addresses for the Xbox and the laptop..........

Yeah, that's their standard bread-and-butter router so I'm extremely surprised that you're having so much trouble.

So you have to reset the settings on the router itself and not on your computer? It's not the computer that's losing its info, correct?

I would try making sure the firmware is up-to-date, and if it is, you can try re-flashing it with the same version of firmware, essentially restoring it and forcing it to reprogram.

If all else fails, it should still be under warranty, so call up Linksys.

I never got around to checking for a Firmware update this week, So today I get back to the house, network is down again, I jump through all the hoops again to get it back up. I downloaded the Firmware update so we'll see.....

yes, these things occasionally break.

I think i'm on my 3rd router and my 2nd cable modem. The worst part is that I usually have to go out late at night to purchase a replacement and the only place that is open is tweeker Walmart.

ive had the same router

these types of routers tend to die every couple years ... usually good for maybe 2-3 years ... and then they start acting up ... most likely from heat issues since they dont have any real cooling, dust probably gets in them

ive gone through a bunch of routers from d-link, netgear and linksys ... they all die eventually ... ive had couple that died within a year also, but usually last 2-3 years

Call Linksys and have them replace it. They will usually do a one time courtesy replacement even if out of warranty. My first WRT54G lasted almost 6 years then the power supply went out. Called them up and they sent me the most recent model. :)

I have had my Airport since 2002 and it still works great. I tried a Dlink and Linksys before my airport but they both kept on cutting out randomly. The best answer that a bestbuy employee could give me was that ALL routers do this and there is nothing that can be done........
