So by now you've probably heard that the reason the guy was not giving up the password to the city's fiberwan was because he thought it would get screwed up. In some strange way, he was protecting the network by not allowing its owners access to its config. Understandable but insane and unprofessional.

Well the DA's office in SF just entered into evidence a password list the found on this guys machine. That made the password list public record. Keep in mind, this guy was the lead engineer on the network so this password list isn't really something too surprising for him to have. It certainly wasn't the type of thing that should be public record though.

I'm beginning to think this guy isn't quite as crazy as he seems and SF really shouldn't be holding the keys to their network.

I'm amused that he would only hand it over to the Mayor.
Not the CIO, not the Deputy Mayor, not the police, but only the Mayor.
One on one.

Also, this is why I don't use ...pejorative passwords. Can you image the scenario:

Mayor: Ok, so, what is the password?
Crazy IT Guy: It's...ummm..
Mayor: C'mon, what is it?
C.I.G.: It's..umm...Fr1sco1sG4y
Mayor: ....
