View Full Version : 04&up GLI owners need your help!!!

Ok so a week or so ago I bought a 05 GLI for my wife as a present, and for the first time today I popped the hood and I notice a couple of things.....( I bought a injen intake and samco TIP that I was pondering on installing, but weather permit :mad: )

1 - I noticed that the VW emblem on the engine cover is grey in color vs. the one on 20ae gti I used to have that had a blue border around the VW emblem. Which I thought was pretty cool looking.

2- The thing that made me think was the following: If I am not mistaking my 20th had a felt like cover underneath the hood. See picture below

Now on the GLI this is what I see:

I am wondering if the techs forgot to check this during the PDI?? Anyone out there with a GLI; Does your car look the same under the hood, and if so why would VW stop adding these under the hood? It dont look good

My emblem looks like yours but I can't remember off the top of my head if my car has the felt under the hood. I would go and check for you but I am parked almost a mile away from my apartment.

I know I just have a GLS but even mine has felt under the hood like in the first picture.

Just got my GLI two days ago.. no felt... no felt on my 2003 golf 2.0 either.

I have felt on my 2003 Jetta GLS.

I thought they were fire blankets that dropped on the engine if it ever caught fire? At least that's what I've been told.

If VW is not including these anymore its a dam shame!!, I guess I'll have to pick one up at the JY. Looks horrible without it. All MK4 jettas should have the same hood right???

It's sound deadening material. Just a theory, but follow me here......

Sound deadening material is the first thing to go in a weight reduction program. The GLI is supposed to be the 'hot rod' version of the Jetta, right? Maybe it was left out on purpose.
