Hey guys, I'm looking to find an optical encoder for my VW Navi. Looking at Grayhill's website (http://www.grayhill.com/), I'm not sure what I'd be looking to get. Are they pretty universal as far as functions are concerned or are they specially built for certain applications? I will get some pictures of the encoder I pulled from my Navi.

It looks something similar to this:

The part # from the one I pulled from my MFD navi is:
Optical encoder
Manufacturer: Grayhill
Part #: 62AY2200S (62AY or 62A series?)

It's the one found on the right hand side that allows you to scroll through the menu and select an item (view picture below.) Apparently, it doesn't work anymore after I took the MFD apart to swap the LEDs.

Vag-com is telling me I'm getting I have an "open circuit" error. All other buttons work fine from what I know, it's only the select button that doesn't work. It powers up just fine and allows me to scroll through the options, but I can't select an option (when I push in to select an option, it doesn't select anything.) Thanks for any help. :)

Nope, these were not offered in the States. Even if they were, I'm sure they wouldn't sell small bits for the Navi's anyways.

Thanks guys, I'll give those a try. Looks like this specific encoder is a lot harder to find than I thought.

I'm trying to source a MFD for parts on eBay.de, but if it doesn't work out, I'll be trying these out. I'll give this thread an update when something happens for future reference.

Yeah, I'd get just the encoder if I was absolutely positive it's the problem. For a little more money, I might be able to get a broken Navi and use the boards and encoder off that.

Yes, and it's in a MkIV Jetta. I have the same thing:

And it's tied to my instrument cluster:

Yup, they came in European MKIV's, Passats, Seats, and Skodas.
