okay so i am running a set of continental 235/35/19 on a set of axis milanos.. i would like a taller sidewall but need to maintain about the same width across the top of the tire so i don't scrape anything underneath my car.. can anyone tell me a good size to run and if there are any brands that have had good reviews?.... i am looking at the nitto 555 extremes but not too sure as of yet.. thanks in advance for all of the help
A quick search of tire rack shows Pirelli PZero Rosso available in 235/45/19. I haven't owned a set, but they have a good reputation as summer tires.

In short: yes.
At length ... the tire size, as you know, is split up into 3 numbers: Width in mm/height of sidewall/wheel diameter in inches. The second number, the height of the sidewall, is a percentage of the width of the tire. So if you have a 235/45/19, that means the tire is 235mm wide, the sidewall is 106mm tall (45% of 235mm), and the tire will fit onto a 19" wheel.
Make sense? :)

Haven't seen too many people running a 235/45/19 tire though. Most people want to try and keep their rolling diameter as close as possible to stock. With a 45 tire your speedo will be off a bit more. I am running the NT555's in 235/35 19 and they have been a really good tire. Almost 30k out of them so far. I might go for the BF Goodrich KDW Ta's though next.

i hadn't even thought about the effect on the speedometer.. i guess i can just stick with the 35's then and maybe i'll check out the br goodrich KDW's :p
I guess I should have asked before.....why do you want a taller sidewall?

I ran a set of Pirelli P-Zeros on my old Lancer OZ. I have nothing but good to say about them. Paid about 190ea though.

no laughing but i thought having a taller sidewall would help the ride out a bit.. you know with roughness and all but i guess not.. i think i am going with the goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3.... i've read a bunch of good things about them so far and they are only running me about $240 a piece... damn this makes me wish i was running a set of 14" wheels.. wal-mart tires 4/$80 baby!
Did you mean to double post? A taller sidewall will help with ride quality. Also, sidewall stiffness will affect ride quality. A Z-rated, aggressive, dry-weather only tire will probably have a much stiffer sidewall than a 3 or 4 season rated touring tire.

just ordered the eagle tires.. read througha bunch of reviews of people running LS1 corvettes and supercharged stangs on these tires and they were extremely happy.. one person said they aren't too great for snow but umm yeah it's socal so who cares ;) plus i got them price matched for $212 with free mounting and balancing
thanks everyone for the info!!

Kind of the price you pay for 19's, don't you think? There is a reason why manufacturers don't run those stock; horrible ride.
I would not recommend 45's. They use 45 series on 17's and 40 series on 18's. if you go any bigger on the sidewalls you will not only screw up your speedo, but it will greatly effect your gear ratio.

i was also wondering if they (45's) would have rubbed the inside of the wheel well or even while i was turning.. but i received the eagle 35's yesterday from fed ex so i won't be rocking the steelie spare to the gtg
