Im curious what are some good driving/racing schools? I want to get started in some sort of racing, even just the little go-karts for now. does anyone know what are some good schools to go to? anyone have any experience with any? so far i like the porsche one. it seems to be reasonably priced compared to some others and seems to be a hybrid of a racing and a driving school as where others such as the BMW and audi seem to be just more of a car control clinic IMO.

control clinics have their merit.

first, define what you think a racing school should provide....

next, define a budget...i'm sure, with enough money, that one could get somone to let you drive an f1 car, hehehe.

there's, of course, the big name schools:
boundurant, imho, provides one of the best programs out there. penske, as i recall, has something as well...there's of course skip barber for racing....

as per local programs, i know a few folk who regularly go out to the racer factory, et al. events...i believe there's one on the weekend of the 15th....i;ve yet to attend a racer factory event but i'd think they'd have some sort of class room component for the newbies...can one expect the level of instruction to be that of an accomplised instructor at say...skip barber 3 day school? prob not...but there are some pretty impressive drivers that show up there to teach, as i've heard.

Before you want to event think about door to door racing, you want to learn how to drive your car. Racerfactory (http://www.racerfactory.com) has experienced and knowledgeable instructors that will teach you in the classroom and on the track for an affordable price. The events are driver educational, so if you happen to break something or make some sort of boo boo you can still claim it with your insurance company. I suggest you attend a few of these events to dial in your skills before you jump into building a race car and going out to the next SCCA event.
