I love my car and its running well but its getting older and needs some TLC.

I kinda want to get a kart for racing and we already have too many cars for 2 people.

The question is... should I sell it? I'd be looking for about $8.5K for it.

hmmm.. I'd say sell it and go with a new hobby. I'm sort of at that same line of thought with my car....love it but way to much TLC sometimes.

Would the kart be a commitment or just another hobby to try and find time for?

So if you get a cart then you have to get a truck or trailer too and all the goodies that go with carting and that will take up more room then your car does?

Why don't you hit up Miramar Speed with me? Have you autox'd? What about a track day? Honestly... I think you'll have the most fun at a HPDE. Those events are amazing!

Chat with the dude MonsterEightValve... he knows his stuff. (I wish he would be a better mentor.)

I session e90post a ton. I bug the hell out of the guys in the racing sub-forum. They have one unified piece of advice for me...

"We are sure, most experienced racers or track junkies will agree, the first and foremost investment you should make is invest in yourself.Go to as many driving schools as possible and learn as much as possible from your instructors."

Ask MonsterEightValve, if you know how to drive, it applies to whatever you get in with 4 wheels. Dirt, kart, front drive, rear drive, etc.

Damn, only $8.5K? Weaksauce. I would just keep it and track it for funsies till it's destroyed.

My car was the one with autocross numbers on it in the Socaleuro booth last weekend.

I may not be fast but I look damn good dodging the cones.

Well, karting is expensive, don't forget, you will need a truck, if you want to do it right, small enclosed trailer, spares, time off for out of town races, $8500 will get you started.

IMO, I get bored of cars easily, you either need to keep it and up the ante with say a VERY large turbo set up and have fun and keep it interesting. Sell it and sit on the money, sell it and get another car. I have a habit of rotating fun cars once a year, I'm on a Cal Look 66 bug at the moment, I will sell it in a year or so and get something else that looks like fun.

Brakes work?????

Why wouldn't they?

I had the brake booster fail awhile back. It always had a weird code on it and then one day all 4 corners locked up.

New booster has held up fine for autocross.

oh cool, I guy I work with got into it, did the truck thing, and got a trailer just for the security of not having all the stuff in the bed of his truck while at the track or hotel.

You could turn it into a specific auto X car..... but then a kart is way faster and as close as you or I will ever get to F1!

still got the beater ranger ?....sell the TT and get a dam kart and get on with it either that or come up to some seat time with me in the dragster and you can feel some real power

or sell both and get a new truck/trailer for the kart
