I am new to this site so.. hello... figured i'd share this with everyone who loves sleepers... in 1996 i bought a 84 buick grand national that was totaled (stolen and stripped) all that was left was the engine and trans etc.. i bought this thinking i was going to put the engine into a regular regal and make it a grand national. pulled the motor harness and all the stuff to do it rebuilt it then stored the stuff in my garage for a long time.. i never did buy a regular regal and i was gettting tired of looking at it...

about the same time my work car 279,000 mile 1982 volvo gl wagon decided to blow her engine... looking at the car i was thinking i should junk her cuz she was in rough shape buti had her so long that i kept her... one day i came up with this idea to put the turbo grand national enginge and trans into my volvo..

i am a pretty good mechanic and a really good welder so i yanked everything out of the volvo and test fitted the motor.. i was surprised to fine that it fit perfectly and all i had to do was build some simple motor mounts and tranny mounts.. and it went right in... next i spent about 8 months wiring it and getting it running.. ... i hate wiring.

any way i got it on the road and man what a sleeper.. i ran low 12's in it with nitrous.. and still got about 17-19 mpg.. it was a great car.. took alot of money off the local spoiled little rice croud.. this spring i decided to sell her. i found someone on the brick board (volvo forum) that appreciated my bastard volvo.. he flew to pittsburgh and drove it to vegas. where he is still racing it... here is a video of him racing it and hitting the wall.. i told him not to shift it manually...lol

here it is.. tell me what you think.. (by the way it is the really ugly brown car)

my new grand national hybrid should be faster (see my sig)... thought about using a bmw... but not enough room between the strut towers..

Any clue why he hit the wall? It looked gradual, and he didn't blow a tire .. I can't figure it out.

i am from pittsburgh pa.. my projects never end.. i did the volvo just to see if it could be done. i never thought it would hold up as long as it did and be as fast as irt was..my datsun should be the project of all projects though.. i just got the rear end in place `12 bolt posi narrowed four link fully adjustable suspension. it has a front suspensoun from a dodge diplomat (torsion bar front) its adjustable too so with some tuning i should be able to get it to hook... i removed the strut towers cuz i don't need them any more. so i have lots of room for the twin t-3's and all the exhaust piping.. i am going to run it hot air at first to get it running then i will intercool it.. i will post some pics as i get done..

he hit the wall cuz he didn't listen to me.. the volvo still had its stock rear end.. (open diff) no posi . i told him not to manually shift it cuz you get some spin on you 2nd to 3rd shift. on top of that he put slicks on it so when he did shift it manually he got even more spin from one tire and it started him left... he over compensated and pow... he learned a valuable lesson. listen to the experts i raced it for 7 years...lol
