Well, having the right to protest for your cause in this country comes with a responsibility of doing so peacefully, masking your face, saying down with the government, and causing damage, destruction and violence will not make you, or your cause look good. They had every right to protest, they also had every right to get arrested for breaking the laws.

oh i dont think there's anything at all wrong with the protest

if you read the article, whats annoying or bugging me is the people that got arrested or harassed that were just nearby

Nothing wrong with roaming bands of masked protestors setting fires, damaging police cars, damaging store fronts huh?? Im amazed that the SF Cronicle would even admit that it happened. Liberal rag that it is.

Realize that when a legal march breaks the rules of assembly, the march can lawfully be ordered to disband. When people dont, then they get arrested.

They should of all been tommy gunned.

Doesn't bother me, if you are that intune to political factions, and go to the RNC to protest peacefully, you will know that there will be a fringe amount of people who do not protest peacefully and cause trouble, if you are that dedicated to your cause, then you would expect, and be ready to go to jail until things get sorted, when the police start arresting people, they will arrest anyone who looks like trouble, they aren't going to stop to interview you on the street and ask if your one of the trouble makers, and its not like they just roll in and start cuffing people, they gather, sit there, let their presence be known, tell people to leave, those that ignore the orders of the law of man, are dealt with accordingly, and rightly so.

What I could never understand, is these idiot anarchists that like to protest the Republicans events, which Republicans traditional stance is less government, the better vs the Democrats that want to oversee everything and spend our dollars on special programs, the idea of a non governed society is just plain stupid and would never happen, if the "anarchists" could figure that out, why pick on the political party that would be closer to what they want?

wasnt referring to protestors ... was referring to the bystanders

But we're very troubled that the police were using heavy-handed tactics. We heard reports from people who were listening to music in the park and who were surrounded and detained."

I've always figured that if you're gonna go to a protest you should have a certain expectation that you may be pepper sprayed, hosed down, detained, etc by law enforcement even though you didn't deserve it.

There always seems to be a few people that break the laws and out numbered cops tend to err in their own favor when dealing with those people. For the size of the protest, they had relatively few issues. Now we're just seeing the necessary outrage/outcry that helps keep the police in check.

The truth is it's not always Republicans protesting the DNC or Democrats protesting the RNC. There are in-betweens. There are groups that don't identify themselves as either a Dem. or Repub. Both conventions get protesters. How it's handled is dependent on the cities they are in.
