I just got my mk4 r32 a week ago and am asking if anybody can explain how to do the flapper mod for cheap or free? I dont really care about the ecs tuning wiring kit. thanks

Also for sale a 2002 VW jetta 1.8T some mods and new HID lights still in the box asking 7500 obo

So you don't care about switching it closed or open?

ok..well that is easy. Locate the vacuum operated flapper at your muffler (driver side next to the muffler mounting bracket). A small diameter vacuum hose leads to it. Disconnect and plug that hose (air tight). Make sure whatever you use to plug it can't be sucked into and/or through the hose. Now....zip-tie that hose to something so it doesn't fly arround. If you like you can also plug the hole on the vacuum can to keep dirt out of it. (East Coast trick hahah).
Fasten seat belts, start the engine and enjoy the (sometimes annoying) sound.

use a golf tee to plug it. will not fall out, easily removed

what is this flapper mod? Is it to make the turbo sound different?

R32s have dual exhaust, right? When at low speeds and cruising, there is a flap on one side of the exhaust (the right exhaust tip) that opens and closes based on a vacuum line, which changes either from certain speeds or RPMS, I can't remember.e So flapper mod opens up the exhaust all the time so it grunts more and sounds meaner all the time.
