View Full Version : F*@k opec
I find it funny, how when there is a "shortage" of oil, or prices are high, OPEC will not increase production. Well, now that the bubble has burst on oil like it did the housing market, OPEC is crying and wants to cut production, and they will to try and bring the price back up.
It doesn't matter how much oil you conserve, how great of mileage your car gets, how many government standards get put on auto manufactures, we are all still at the mercy of OPEC as long as they are controlling the taps. If we all drove 100MPG cars, they would just cut back supply further. Venezuela pumps all their own gas, its .12 cents a gallon. We send the approx. cost of the entire Iraq war to the middle east, every year in oil monies.
When are we going to wake up, push Green Peace and the other eco nuts into a gorge and start drilling for oil. We have enough ACCESSIBLE oil to last us ATLEAST 50 years by current estimates without further exploration. Drilling has become alot cleaner and safer then 30 years ago when they would dump well run off into pits. My fathers side of the family has been in the oil business since the 1940's. We still need to explore other energy routes, but we need to become self sufficient for our own economy, our future, children future, etc.

At least their bullshit is added incentive to find more efficient and cleaner technologies to replace oil.

Compressed Natural Gas ftw!
we can use our shit to boost the methane production needed. plus that stuff comes in at a really high octane so nothing better than using higher compression and getting more power.

You're absolutely right, we will always be at OPECs mercy until we can be self sufficient. Fuel efficient cars are good for the environment and good for our global image, but we have let gas prices get this high, there is no reason for OPEC to lower them.
I am as much, if not more, of an environmentalist than 99% of car guys, but I support drilling. We need to stop throwing money at the Middle East and putting that money towards future technology. I don't expect dollar per gallon gas, but I would like to think that two of my three dollars a gallon can be going towards developing wind, solar, nuclear and geothermal energy solutions. Everyone wants electric cars, but no one is bothering to think where the electricity is going to come from.

Yep You are right. OPEC rules us.....and we let them. Don't forget that there are many people (of all nations) who make a hell of a lot of profit on every Gallon of oil. These people also drive the oil price simply by "making news" on War, Weather and Catastrophes. We call these people Traders. My first action to gain control over rediculous oil politics would be to kick the traders of the wall street floors but.............mhmmmm that doesn't work. Why do we blame the OPEC for their price politics when the biggest mark-up is made on the wall street?
It would definately be a good idea to work towards becoming self sufficient. We just need to make sure there are no parasites/freeloaders between the oil/oil producers and us.
Oh and some news from the GAS industry. Russia, Iran and Quartar are in talks about an organization like OPEC for their natural gas resources woooohooo.
Luckily we have plenty of natural gas.

I think you mean QUATAR
What I don't get is, our economy is in the crapper, we could create a TON of jobs, right here in this country drill ing and producing our own oil. We would need people not only to drill from an oil company, but also an entire infrastructure of support for the services required, food, housing, clothing, etc. Now that we have more jobs and income, people will need to spend money. So if they buy a car, you have employed a sales associate, serivce staff, parts, car wash, etc. It all trickles down.
I like nature and a clean environment as much as the next guy, but we need to do something.
