I'm putting my suspension in this weekend and need to know of a good place in central San Diego (Mission Valley, Kensington, area) or close to it, to get a good wheel alignment.

I searched through loads of pages on vortex and only came up with ones in N. Count or E. County.

Anyone know of a good place more centrally located?

Also, how long can you go without getting the alignment, after a full strut/shock/spring install before any harm is done?

well, i'd wait about a month for your springs to settle before getting the alignment done, but i'd recommend performance tire on miramar road. clarence brown (in clairmont i think) is also good, but much more expensive

I got mine done at Clarence Brown. Their prices are actually quite resonable from what I remember

I second Performance Tire. They are great. I didn't align my ride for like 40K after my coilovers (oops!), but it was fine anyways. That was at a now defunct shop. But the sencond time I got it aligned I went to Performance Tire and they were so nice. They have a super advanced laser machine thingie. And it turned out that my car was fine again, so they didn't do anything and didn't even charge me!

I would NOT go to Clarence Brown..

I had work and alignment done .. ... by the time I got home my car was making a horrible clunking sound, I discovered that 3 of my 4 lug bolts were only held on by 2 or 3 threads, they weren't even finger tight. AND when they aligned my car, they put 2 nice scratches around the lips of my rims.

When I called them on it.. they denied everything and said it must have been something I did.

Those guys are JERKS! stay away if you love your car.

performance tire will run you about 50-60 bucks for a 4-wheel alignment

not bad.
the place by my house wants 69.99 and, without even putting it on the machine, told me to get new camber bolts because I dropped it over an inch. is this right? I've heard that you don't need a camber kit unless your like 2 inches lower or more.
he also said that it could go up to 150ish if he need to disassemble the rear to put shims in. Does this sound right?
He sounds like he knows his shite and would do a good job. He's a young hipster, hotrod, gearhead kinda guy, who looks like he should have been born in the '50s. He's got a 50something Bel Air and all. It also sounds like he's trying to milk me, though. Moooo.
I think I'll go with performance tire.

well, when i used to have my older cars, shims didn't add to the price, it was just how they dealt with the rear not having built in adjustments. as for camber kits, you don't ever have to get them, they are just an option. my audi is dumped and they just adjust other things, such as the tow, to help counter the camber. i've had my car dumped on the same tires for about a year and a half and the tires are still good.

Milk?? Sounds more like rape to me. RUN!!!

I use Lakeside Muffler. Lazer alignment system to whatever spec you want. no bullshit lines and if you wanna sit in the car while its being set, you can.

$45.00 out da door.

Performance Tire had a lazer alignment systems too. been a while since i've gotten an alignment on a car and so that was the first time seeing it. Last time i got a wheel alignment the guy used chalk to draw lines on the tires as he spun them

Props for Clarence Brown... they're a bit old school as far as their equipment and personnel goes, but they do a great job nonetheless.
