so i have a friend that is having problems with his 97 jetta gl door locks.. a mechanic told him there was a problem with his vacuum tubes??? the driver side will unlock and you can hear a whirring noise on the other ones, but no action whatsoever. anyone have any ideas or experience with this problem? also he just got a new transmission and is hoping to get a few bucks for his old one, it wouldn't hold in reverse. in case anyone is interested let me know.. thanks in advance

The door locks on the MK3's are pneumatic. The problem you are having is due to an air leak some where in the system. Sometimes what happens is the hose(vaccum tubes) comes loose from the locking mechanism on the door and enough air escapes to create a pressure drop so the door/s will not unlock and the air pump will continue run.

would this be on the driver's door since no other ones are working??
