Dan Gurney is a legendary race driver, builder, and owner. He remains the only American to win a Formula 1 race in a car the he designed and built. He co-drove and won the 1971 Cannonball Run with Brock Yates. That victory inspired Brock Yates to write the screenplay for the movie with Burt Reynolds.
Phil Hill grew up in SoCal and became the first American to win a Formula 1 World Driver's Championship. He's won the 24 Hours of LeMans and Sebring a couple of times.
wow, how cool, these guys raced back before racing was safe! I would like to go meet them before they are gone, as Carrol Shelby has been on borrowed time since his heart surgery in the 90's. I love vintage racing. who here has seen "Le Mans" with Steve McQUeen? Lots of cool racing in that movie.

Dan Gurney is why they created the "Gurney bubble" in the GT40 Le Mans cars. he was too tall to fit in the low roofline, so there is a 'bubble' on the drivers side to fit his helmet.
