im trying to install my lowering springs on my mk3 golf. I have my struts out but now i need to get the spring out...there is one bolt that sticks out at the top and i need a 7mm allen socket so i turn it but it doesnt seem to be loosening...any ideas???

You need a special socket. You're supposed to use the allen to hold the shock shaft steady and loosen the nut. You'll need to compress the spring first, then loosen the nut. If you have access to a grinder, you can grind the side off of a deep socket in order to be able to reach in there with the allen wrench. Or, you can do what I did. Take a piece of strap steel, about 6" long and 1/4" thick and 1 1/2" wide, cut a hole in it and weld it to the socket. That way the socket becomes a wrench and I can reach the shaft of the shock through the top of the socket. I guess there's a third way.....you can go out and buy the speciality wrenches...but that's no fun.
You can get the nut off with an impact gun, but you won't be able to properly torque it back on without the special (homemade or bought) wrench.

Unfortunately, I don't. Google might be able to help you out with that one.

oh yeah, that spring is under alot of tension. Unless your using a spring compressor, dont mess with it. Blow your head off!

once you get the spring compressor you don't need to hold the center bolt if you have airtools
