So I found a 2.0l 16v head in good cond.(from what I could tell) still had the cams and timing chain (chain on the two cam, think that's what it's called). So I finally get it out of the Passat at the (Oceanside) Ecology junk yard but I couldn't pull off the lower intake mani or the exhaust mani. I didn't have the allen wrenches for the intake side and the exhaust mani had a stripped nut that I couldn't loosed with vise grips. They wanted to charge me an additional $60 for the manifolds that I didn't want just couldn't get off and they closed just as I got it out. They won't hold if for me and I am not sure when I can get back there. Think I'll just hope and maybe I'll get some time off to go down there this week and it'll still be there waiting for me to pull those Damned manifolds off. Well guess I'm just a newbie complainin' but I imagine there will be many more hurdles to conquer.

How do those places work? Bring your own tools and everything and whatever you can salvage, you can purchase?
I tried calling that yard, and another nearby it once, to see if they had any random mk3s I could pick through, but they always just had mk2s and older. If I'm ever back in SoCal I wouldn't mind compiling a list of possible OE upgrades I could find, it'd be like a treasure hunt :D

Yeah, It's like whatever you can pull they have a guidline for prices. Appearantly manifolds no matter how big, small, or incomplete they are cost 30 a piece. EVEN WHEN YOU DON"T WANT THEM! Yeah I didn't see anything MKIII or newer. I need to find the Slide racks from an MKIV now that I think about it. SO if you find anything let me know. I'll do the same.

you know I don't know. I just know they wanted too much for the crap that I couldn't even use. If you call them I am sure they have set prices and they'll tell you but they won't tell you if they still have it.

81.65 includes tax. That's for Head, cams, timing chain....pretty much complete head minus the bolts that secure it to the block. I only saw one of them there.
Is this a good Price. I still want it if it's still down there. I had today off to go get it and the GTi died.

You know if you can get it out with the manifollds attached you can go and stick it in some american cars trunk where no one would look for it and then go back ang get it later. I have done this and it will usually buy you 2 weeks or so until the junk the car its stored in.

Time to take the wife to work and make her wait for you after. Unless she gets mad easy and in that case I hear that the bus system is great!!

Are you talking about the head that's laying on the ground in front of the Passat? I was there yesterday picking up some bits and pieces. That head looked like it was in good shape. You should have at least thrown it in the trunk of another car so it won't walk away before you get back.

Damn!! yes that is my head. I was so pissed. I got it out and it wasn't easy so I left it. I didn't think about hiding it till I was back home in San Clemente. Right now I gotta figure how to get the alternator out of my engine bay. It is all disconnected but stuck in there cus I can't find a path out.

You can try to do what I had to do with my old Jetta and that was loosen a motor mount and use a jack to move the motor to one side or another to make more room to pull it out.

Yayyyyy! I got the head. Ended up taking the lower intake manifold along with it cus the only allen wrench I didn't have was the one that fit. Spent 130 after warranty. Well now I need everything else.

Almost everything. I am supposed to meet with a guy on Friday to get the intake, fuel injection, wiring harness and ecu. A couple other things too. I pretty much need everything. INcluding a1 exhaust mani and the studs for the exhaust mani that go on the head. The list goes on.... FOr now I need to get my 8v running so I can use this car until I can find a block, distributor, so on and so on.

Well, I'll put together a list of everything I have and get it out to ya.
I know for sure that I have a head, distributer, some misc. sensors. I'm prolly gonna trade away the intake manifold and valve cover tommorow night, sorry. I also have the exhaust manifold and downpipe.

is it the proper exhuast manifold and down pipe that'll work on an a1 chassis? IF so I'd def be interested in that. DOn' worry about the intake mani I am supposed to pick one up on Friday. After FRiday I'll know what else I need. I'll be in touch.
