My girlfriend's got a 2002 Cabrio GLX w/ the 2.0L, auto... it's a dog and she enjoys driving hard (she used to have a 98 2.8L A4)... is there anything to get a little more pick up out of this motor without "rice"? This double-digit 0-60 is killing us! Thanks in advance...

Do not waste your money on the nuespeed sc, it is not even worth half the money it costs to just purchase the pile.

well we've gotten all the extreme suggestions... I didn't know if there was anything simple, like if this motor was really detuned and just some timing adjusments could net any gains. I think she's going to trade it in for a Mini-S or a TT this summer anyhow. I guess we'll just deal with it until then. Thanks guys.

From what I hear, the mk4 2.0 is even worse than the mk3 ... the mk3 is the ABA I guess, but they changed it or something for newer ones? I assume the 2002 would have the newer one, even though the Cabrio is still a "3.5."
What do those things weigh? Does the cloth top save any weight on it?
Engine swaps seem to be the best for Cabrios, since the 2.0 is slow anyway, and no one expects a Cabrio VR6 or 1.8T.

Yep, either trade it in for something better, or swap a VR Like Pat said. The Neuspeed S/C is a wate of time as you will barely make the stock power of a VR6. In my opinion, I would swap a VR6 into it.

Since the top is cloth, they add more steel to the undercarriage to stiffen things up. Verts always weigh more then their hardtop brethren. I have a dry NO2 system for sale if interested....60~80~ and 120 shot w/purge kit/NO2 guage

Nitrous eh? Well, I'm not entirely sure my girl's down with the juice... and it would probably criple my 160k mile 12V V6, although my Jeep wouldn't mind getting into the 13s :) Would it work on a V8? How much?

Ah, I was kinda thinking that .. thought I had heard that 'verts' were heavier.
Only 'vert' I'd ever want would be a folding hardtop, ala SLK anyway.
And despite the stiffening and anti-roll bars, I'd still think 'verts' might not be able to go quite as fast / be as stable at higher speeds and traditional hard-top vehicles?
Maybe not so much the exotics, but something like the Cabrio at least, which isn't meant for mad speed.
If you find anything to make it faster, lemme know, I still want to make my ex-gf mod her OBDI cabrio ;)
Too bad she doesn't have the smoked tails ... but hers at least came with those 7-spoke alloys, more than I can say about my own Golf.
