1.) What are going to be the pro/cons of a 1.8l 16v to the 2.0l 16v. (I am finding a good amount of 1.8's but nothing in the 2.0 dept) oh and this is for my 83 GTi.

2.) One of the guys I work with is trying to figure out if he has a bad battery or bad alternator. He has a 99 GTi, I think it a 2.0l. He said he shut the car off and tried to restart it and nothing. Let it sit for a while (hour or so) and it started. He has a cap inline to the amp and while the car was running, he watched that volts steadily decrease. WHen he turned on the headlights, the <9v warning beeped and his stereo system shut off. So any past experiences?

1. The 2.0 has a longer stroke, so it won't rev as high in stock form. But, it does have more torque and HP. There's no replacement for displacement. You want to build a turbo motor, right? I would say go for the 2.0.

2. If the volt meter is dropping while the car is running, that's an alternator. Places like Autozone will test it for free. They can actually do a test of the whole charging system with a cart that wheels out to the car.
