One of my friends ran outta gas the other night and tried to start her car a few times with no gas in it. I heard that the fuel pump? is gasoline cooled so if one doesnt have gas then the fuel pump will break. She has been experiencing a few stalls in the last few days and i was wondering if that was due to her running out of gas? Any help or comments would be appriated thanks

More than likely, it is the fuel pump. She'll want to get it fixed pretty soon because that thing can strand her somewhere she doesn't want to be.

So it is true that trying to start the car with little or no gas can cause the fuel pump to break? Is it fuel cooled or was I miss informed, or is another part of the fuel system fuel cooled?
Thanks for the reply

Even just running the car out of fuel can kill the pump. Starting the car several times without fuel in the tank can almost certainly cause damage to the pump.
You are correct in that the fuel pump is cooled by the fuel.

No problem.
My mom drives a 95 Trans Am ... she ran out of gas one time, and it was like a week after getting the car. 8 months later the car just wouldn't start. Ironically enough, she got stranded at a gas station, heh. Anyway, towed the car to the dealer, it was the fuel pump and they decided it was because she ran out of gas the one time.
