i'm looking to change my belts (timing, a/c etc...) anyone know if this is a little too complicated (i've been quoted for $200 for labor to do this at a nearby shop (vw, porsche, jag specialist) :tup: :tup:

what engine 1.8 2.0 vr6 the 1.8 is easy to do cause all the room 2.0 should be the same. the vr6 is a pain in the ass cause there is no room but you just need a long screw driver or stick to do some fishing to get it on the btm pulley.

1.8t.... i'll have to check out the bentley to make sure i'm not neck deep in it with no clue.. thanks!! :tup:

It's doable, I did mine with the VR and you need bolt for the tensioner. Can't remember what size offhand, but that and the dogbone mount, front upper strut, and oil are the only things I would tackle on the MKIV :D

200 bucks is not too bad if you don't want to deal with it.

The only hard part is the timing belt goes around the side motor mount but that isn't too bad. You just have to jack the engine up a bit on the one side to get the belt around it.

The accessory belt is super easy on a 1.8T... I'm a programmer and I can change it in about 15 mins.

It's not hard, but if you've never done it before, set aside an afternoon so you can take your time and do it right.

that's the problem, i live in an apt with no work space and the shop i use for working is closed on the weekends.. no time off work to do it.. hmm $200 is sounding better and better. but thanks everyone for the info, i think i'd rather have someone else do it since i don't have anyone experienced to show me the ropes... ;)

if that include's a timing belt for 2 bill's i'll go for it, especially if you don't have a garage..
