pour sand into the intake manifold and rev it to like 5000 rpms for about 10 minutes.....
thats the cheapest way to polish the intake manifold...
it also does a decent job of polishing the exhaust manifold as well.....but doesnt quite do the job of the pros. but for the money...cant beat it.

Waste of time, ... remove head!
Here are some quick ones.
If you don't have one already, make some sort of an intake to get cooler air and more flow.
Run synthetic oil.
Over gap your plugs just a little bit. like .050 over.
Find ways to lighten your car.
reset your ecu.
remove your exhaust, if you feel frisky just run open header.
Make sure your tires are inflated properly.
Figure out your HP and TQ power curves and your gear ratios. From there you can find the ideal shift point for each gear.
Anyone else care to add?

If you don't have an aftermarket intake, drill holes in the fender side of the lower air intake box (below the filter), it'll suck in slightly colder air.
There's DIYs on that all over Vortex ... can also modify the inside of the intake box a bit, like blocking the reroute from the exhaust that heats up your engine temp quicker.

basically, if you want more horsepower there is no real cheap way to do it.

NOS--Man you need NOS!!!!! hahaha!!!!!!

doesnt NOS F-up your engine?
NOS is fine when its hooked put properly, if not....BLAM! I know a guy with a 944 turbo that uses it untill it reaces boost to make up for the lag of a giant turbonetics turbo, it has a boost switch that turns it of, for your car an exhaust is cheap, chip too, cut your airbox with a K&N. FREE STUFF take out the back seat, carpet, luggage cover, airbags, stereo and a/c (if you can live with out them), then if you want get lighter seats, light racing battery, light wheels, put it on a diet. that not only helps acceleration, but cornering and braking as well. I know stripping a GT3 and adding a full cage lowers the weight by 400 lbs. thats alot, and MK3's can become very light. you'll be chasing Porsches in no time, I usually crash there canyon runs and emarass them pretty bad in a canyon, I'm gonna flatpack mine on the scales at work one of these days to see how low I have it.
But Pat has an excellent suggestion by removing the head, its a good 90-100 lbs, thats about an effective 10hp!

I have never heard of overgapping your spark plugs. What can that possibly do for horsepower?
