Breeze Van Center Rolls out the Transporter Carpte Van
As every van operator knows, versatility is key to success. Just as each job is different, so each van needs to be adapted to the operator’s bespoke requirements. Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles conversions include everything from minibuses through Luton vans, ambulances, freezer vans and police surveillance vans to car transporters – to name but a few.
Breeze Van Centre in Poole has developed one of the most recent, and more unusual, conversions, responding to the needs of those needing to transport long, rather than heavy, loads.
In spring 2003, sales staff from the Van Centre attended the Carpet and Flooring Exhibition in Brighton. Listening to exhibitors and visitors from the flooring industry,
it became clear there was a need for a van which could transport long rolls of carpet.
A design was agreed and Transload Bodybuilders of Andover carried out conversion work on a Volkswagen LT28. This demonstration vehicle was soon attracting interest, and has resulted in the sale of six LT ‘carpet’ vans. One customer, John Matthews of Lambourne Carpets and Flooring, is in no doubt there are great benefits to having a van designed specifically for the industry.
He said: ‘This is an excellent van, far superior to any other vehicle available on the market. We can now comfortably carry 15’ wide carpets without them hanging out the back of the van or lashing them to the roof. This unique van is also very competitively priced. We’re absolutely delighted.’
The new Volkswagen Transporter was also found to be suitable for this type of conversion and now a Transporter ‘carpet’ van is available for demonstration.
With internal load dimensions of 4200 mm length, 1930 mm width and 1200 mm height, along with a 850 mm rear opening, the Transporter conversion is drawing interest from other market sectors including courier companies, the aerospace industry, and kitchen and bathroom suppliers.
The Breeze Van Centre, part of Volkswagen’s national network of Van Centres, moved to a brand new purpose-built site in March of this year. Major investment
has resulted in modern premises from which a comprehensive range of products is available to van operators including the full Volkswagen Commercial Vehicle range, Assured used vehicles, servicing, parts and accessories, fleet sales and finance.
