Is the dealership the only place to get one?
Can a dummy "valet" key (no remote) be made for it? Where can you get one?
Can an aftermarket keyless remote be purchased, or a blank be purchased, that can be programmed by self or by the dealership?
Or is it just a matter of biting the bullet and forking over the cash to the dealer?
dealership only, must have I.D. and vehicle registration proving you are the owner, must be programed, couple hundred bucks to have done, you could have a walet key done, but if your gonna buy one, spend the extra $ for a full fledged key/remote

There are aftermarket places to get the keys cut for less money but it the key had the remote built in then you need to goto the dealer for it. For SAAB's you can buy used remotes on Ebay for $15 and then goto the dealer and pay $15 bucks to have them programmed to your car but now sure on the Vovlo if its the same.
BMW uses a sidewinder key in a E38, and requires a $1800 machine to cut it, the key if I remember correctly is around $160 dollars and another $100 to program. far cry from a $1 ace hardware special for my VW!
