I was going to post this in the Benz forum, and make note that there isn't much Benz posting on SoCalEuro .. then I realized there is no Benz forum
Guess I'll never try and make my Dad join SCE after all :p

Anyway, by way of the Vortex Car Lounge ... I'd heard MB was going to go with turbos rather than superchargers for cost/performance, but I didn't expect this

If ever there was proof of the oil-burning revolution, these two cars are it. For the first time, Mercedes' SLK and SL convertibles have been given diesel power.
Featuring three turbochargers, the AMG-bodied SLK is badged the 320 CDI Tri-turbo. The 3.0-litre two-seater uses a modified version of the maker's new V6 diesel powerplant to generate 282bhp and 630Nm of torque.

At low revs, two smaller turbos provide extra thrust, while the larger third one comes in as acceleration increases, offering lag-free power delivery. The result is a 0-60mph time of 5.3 seconds and a top speed limited to 155mph. What's more, the Tri-turbo SLK returns economy of 37.7mpg.

Even with one less turbocharger, the other new Merc superdiesel is just as impressive on paper. The SL400 CDI uses a redesigned 4.0-litre V8 to produce 311bhp and 730Nm of torque. The luxurious drop-top can sprint from 0-60mph in 5.8 seconds - quicker than the petrol-powered SL500.

Built to celebrate 70 years of Mercedes diesel cars, the duo made their debuts at the Geneva Motor Show. The oil-burning drop-tops wear the Vision badge, which the German firm tags on to all of its concept cars. However, less powerful versions of the V6 and V8 diesel units are soon to be introduced across the three-pointed star line-up. Little work would be required to put the drop-top newcomers into production.

We used to have a benz forum.

I wonder what happened to it?

"I won-der... I wha, wha, wha, wha, Won-der... Why... wha, wha, wha, wha, Why, she went away..."
